President Biden’s administration said Monday it is writing new rules aimed at requiring airlines to compensate passengers for significant flight delays or cancellations when the carriers are responsible.
It is the latest in a series of moves by the Biden administration to crack down on airlines and bolster passenger consumer protections for domestic flights and international flights involving an American destination or origin.
“When an airline causes a flight cancellation or delay, passengers should not foot the bill,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement.

In addition, they should require doctors’ offices to compensate you for the portion of your life wasted in the waiting room.
Money fixes everything.
From climate to Ukraine to reparations to bailouts . . .
How about the same for doctors? How many times have you sat for hours after your scheduled appointment to see a doctor? Anything past 15 minutes should require they pay you for lost wages for the delay.
Also, do you know what you NEVER see in a doctor’s waiting room?
Answer: another doctor!
God knows I hate to agree with anything from the Biden administration, but they’re right. Airlines get away with treating people like crap because they can. If it doesn’t cost them money then they’ll screw you into oblivion because you essentially have no recourse. They just declare something that’s obviously their fault as a “weather event” and leave the passengers hanging.

And who should compensate the airline passengers when flight delays or cancellations are due to the FAA’s antiquated decades old air traffic control system???? And who determines that it is the airlines, and not that antiquated system that was at fault.
Other countries have much more modern air traffic control systems, beacause they have infested in newer systems instead of relying on older ones. Among major nations the U.S. is using some of the oldest air traffic control technologies on the planet. If Biden had a REAL “Secretary for Transpotation” he would have admitted the real needs of the air traffic control systems from his first day in office. But no, he is another of the know nothings in the Biden administration, hired because his hire cheched some correct “diversity” box.
I was more fixated on the word “rules”. What exactly do the plan on doing? Passing legislation?
Look, I’m not fan of the airlines business model, but most times when you’re stuck, you’re compensated. Anyone who has traveled half as much as me can tell you that.
In the rare cases when you’re not, it’s usually not the airlines fault
These people are so stupid. The airlines will just raise fates to compensate with a cushion to protect their profits.
How would you know? You think they wear Doctors scrubs or coats when they go for an appointment? LOL
Those insurance plans are offered and/or underwritten by third parties.
And government offices holding you past your appointment time... Hello driver’s license offices...
I do. I'm an airline pilot and the stuff I see them pull would outrage you too.

Yup. My daughter flew home from college last week. She had 4 bags. Her 1st class ticket was $341 and that gave us 2 free checked bags. They charged her $350 for the two additional bags- one which was a backpack. When I checked her into the flight it never asked how many bags she was checking- they assumed it was only 2. Why were blindsided by the charge. I am now in the process of fighting American to get at least $290 back
They treat you as you are able to pay.
Pay more, and you get more services.
But just like health care, most is just bad if not awful. I have chosen to drive more than fly because the pain is to much.
