Chicago Gay Bars Stop Selling Bud Light, Other Anheuser-Busch Beers After Brand Backs Down To Anti-Trans Critics

NORTHALSTED — A slew of Chicago gay bars have stopped selling Anheuser Busch InBev products after the beer giant distanced itself from transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney’s Bud Light marketing campaign amid anti-trans backlash.

2Bears Tavern Group, which owns four gay bars from Uptown to Rogers Park, was the first to drop Anheuser-Busch InBev, posting on Instagram Thursday that its abandonment of Mulvaney amid controversy “shows how little Anheuser-Busch cares about the LGBTQIA+ community, and in particular transgender people, who have been under unrelenting attack in this country.”

Sidetrack, a 41-year-old gay bar founded by LGBTQ rights pioneers Art Johnston and Jose Pepé Peña, later made the same announcement.

“We must also hold brands accountable if they take active steps against LGBTQ+ equality, visibility and safety,” Sidetrack posted.

The gay bars will no longer sell all Anheuser-Busch products, including Bud Light, Busch Light and Goose Island 312.

The controversy began after Anheuser-Busch partnered with Mulvaney for a sponsored post and launched a line of Pride-themed cans with various pronouns.

Many took to social media to express transphobic outrage over the Mulvaney partnership, including an Instagram clip of country musician Kid Rock shooting four cases of Bud Light with a rifle and customers vowing they would stop drinking Bud Light. Others expressed support for Mulvaney and the campaign.

But Anheuser-Busch CEO Michel Doukeris addressed the controversy during an earnings call with investors Thursday and distanced the brand from Mulvaney, according to Yahoo Finance.

“We need to clarify the facts that this was one can, one influencer, one post and not a campaign,” Doukeris said.

The CEO also posted a statement in April saying the brand “never intended to be part of a discussion that divides people.”

Both alcoholism and bar patronage is extremely high among the pervert class.

When I lived in Chicago in the early '80s, I had noticed some bars had their "Old Style" signs mounted wrong. Some were upside down, and some were backwards. I was later told that the upside down ones were male homosexual bars, while the mirror image ones catered to lesbians.

There was a substantial number of these places throughout the city. That was then. I am sure it is worse now, even if the code is different. Heck, I don't even know if "Old Style" is a thing anymore.

At a meeting of the Anheuser Busch top brass: “What can we do to alienate literally everybody in the country?”

It would seem like an impossible task. But by golly, they were able to pull it off.

Advertisers need to buy a clue and learn to stay out of woke politics.

Years ago I was in San Francisco (Once a beautiful city worth visiting but it is no more that city it once was.) We were just walking around admiring the city. We decided to have a drink and noticed a bar and walked in and ordered. The bar was dimly lighted. A very courteous waiter brought us our drinks. As my eyes adjusted to the dim light I noticed something. There were about 20 people in the bar. I turned to my wife and said, "darling you are the only woman in this bar." It amused me and we were treated well. I finished my scotch and water and continued on to roam about the city.

Perhaps they could save it all by teaming up with Dylan and Johnsonville. Make a Johnsonville Beer Brat Hot Tub, maybe some Beer Butt Chicken.

Well ... thanks, queers, for helping us kill Anheuser-Busch.

I’m sure other corps will get a clear message from it all. :)

On the other hand…

I once visited a friend of mine in western PA. He took me to this bar. As was the bar in your story, this bar was dimly lit. Once my eyes adjusted, I looked around. Nothing but women everywhere. But they all looked like truck drivers.

As a joke, my friend had taken me to a lesbian bar. We were treated neither well nor poorly. We were served, but with no emotion whatsoever.

And I’ll tell you one thing. Those lesbian gals looked nothing like the ones I remember from those bachelor party movies. Somebody got mixed up somewhere.

Had the same experience in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Sat down, ordered a beer and suddenly noticed no women in the place. Then the coup de grace: a male patron kissed the male bartender good bye. Abandoned my beer and hastily ran out.

I bet they are still selling brands sold by Coors Molson, which happens to be just as woke as AB InBev!

Business schools like case studies, and epic fails are the stuff of legends. The Bud Light episode has a long run ahead of it.

If it’s not too politically incorrect for modern universities to tolerate. And no professor or student would dare crack a smile when discussing the case.
