Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said Friday he would send troops to fight in Bakhmut if the Wagner Group pulls out of the Ukrainian city.

Kadyrov, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, made the pledge in a statement he posted on his official Telegram channel.

Earlier in the day, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner Group of Russian mercenaries, announced he would be removing his fighters from Bakhmut on May 10 because of an ammunition shortage. Prior to his announcement, Prigozhin published a video in which he angrily blamed top Russian officials for the deaths of Wagner fighters because his units were not being provided with sufficient ammunition.

The Russian GIs may balk at that.

It wouldn’t be the first mutiny in the history of Russian arms.

Doesn't make sense that a commander could be so sharply critical of Putin and live very long.

Doesn't make sense to me that having taken 95 percent of Bhakmut, the Wagner's would voluntarily withdraw without taking the entire city.

If they don’t have bullets, they can’t hold it.

They have bullets. Having fought over the city for over nine months and nearly encircled the remaining blocks under Ukrainian control, voluntary withdrawal now would strike a severe blow to moral among Russian forces. That should be obvious.

A strategic withdrawal to shape the battlefield in anticipation of the Ukrainian offensive might make more sense.

They’re not in the same league as the Wagner troops. Not by a long shot. IMHO, of course.

These are Chechan troops, not Russians. They are led by the son, Ramzan Kadyrov, of the guy that fought the Russians before they flattened Grozny, and then changed sides, becoming a loyal dog to the Rooskies. His son took over Chechnya after his dad was assassinated, and might even be more of a Putin suck-up than his old man.

The remarkable fact is Islamic Chechnyans were decimated by the regional war, Grozny flattened. They committed suicide attacks inside Russia and now they are shedding their own blood FOR Russia. That my friends, speaks volumes for Vlad.

Troops without ammunition don’t stand much of a chance.
