California is taking action to curb locomotive emissions operating within its borders as part of the state's sweeping climate agenda.
On Thursday, the California Air Resource Board (CARB), a state agency tasked with protecting air quality and reducing harmful pollution, announced that it would pursue aggressive regulations to limit freight train emissions. The so-called In-Use Locomotive Regulation makes California the first state to tackle freight train emissions which represent just 0.5% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, according to federal data.

Its going to be a big project changing over to HO and Lionel trains
You need to try bluetooth jumper cables. They don’t take up much space.
The manufacturers of train engines have talented engineers who have designed the most efficent and powerful machines then can. It has taken decades to get to this point. And the arrogant lawmakers who have no clue about anything but politics are going to destroy another industry.
Kind Sir,
Thank you for telling this moron these facts. I had absolutely no idea, I know nothing about trains. Am thankful to have learned something new today!
Sincerely,
USC
They believe little fairies live in the walls and magically create electricity at the power outlet. Far away power plants? Pfffft, get outahere! Everyone knows electricity is magic and greeeeen and will “save the planet” from “climatechange”!
I think leftists must actually believe this.
You must be kidding. Or this is the Babylon Bee. Wait, we are talking about California, with its lethal mix of low IQ and sheer insanity!
How many semis will it take to replace the job done y those trains?
Is it possible to forcibly eject a state from the Union for excessive idiocy?
Tell me California, where do you think BNSF and the UP will do, by a f’ing Electric locomotive? No, they’ll tell the port operator to ship to Seattle or to Mexico. I think you are infringing on the Fed territory.
My train was a 50 by 10 layout. I started out with a 8 by 4 plywood when I was 7...it grew...when I moved to Florida, half went to my nephew, a quarter went to my ex stepson and a quarter went to Florida. Now it grew again and I have a Garden railroad, too.
I had N scale growing up. Still N scale and a G scale.
4. Need a full California rail boycott. No passengers or freight going in or coming out. Let the vegetables and fruits rot, dry foods stay in warehouses, people take an electric bus or car, or walk. No planes either.
Turn California into a new type of prison, Soviet style. Oh wait. It already is! My bad!

It's something to consider again, I suppose.
But I have no kids, and have plenty else to do.
So I probably will stick with gardening as my primary hobby.
Besides, a major basement flood destroyed all of my train stuff years ago.
I researched it - and the stuff that was destroyed would be worth thousands now.
