It's On: Joe Manchin Closer Than Ever to Losing His Senate Seat

UPDATE: Manchin responds with this statement:

“I am laser focused on doing the job West Virginians elected me to do – lowering healthcare costs, protecting Social Security and Medicare, shoring up American energy security and getting our fiscal house in order. But make no mistake, I will win any race I enter."

***Original post***

West Virginia Democratic Senator Joe Manchin is in the political battle of his life after popular Republican Governor Jim Justice officially filed to run against him in 2024.

"West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice (R) filed paperwork Thursday to run for the state’s Senate seat with Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) up for reelection in 2024," The Hill reports. "After months of hinting at a potential bid for the Senate, Justice is expected to officially launch his campaign for Senate on Thursday at 5 p.m. Justice, 72, is looking to flip Manchin’s seat in the Senate, jeopardizing the Democrats’ already slim majority in the upper chamber."

Last month, Justice confidently stated if he were enter the race against Manchin, he would win. The polling bears out that assertion.

Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV) says he is "very seriously considering" running for the Senate seat held by Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) in 2024.

Fox's Brian Kilmeade: "Do you think you would win?"

Justice: "I know I'd win. That's all there is to it."

In recent days Manchin has been in panic mode over his August 2022 vote for the Inflation Reduction Act. Without his vote the monstrous legislation, which guts domestic energy production and jobs in West Virginia, wouldn't have passed. As the legislation is being implemented, Manchin has feigned outrage over the cost, which was clearly written into the bill last year.

Manchin is a fraud. I don’t know anything about Justice.

I agree with you. Yes there are some people who claim they would rather just have a Democrat instead of a less than pure conservative Republican.

It’s still a good outcome if a less than perfect Republican can oust a Democrat. Joe Manchin definitely is vulnerable.

Honestly this guy knows who voted for him, it was the government employees and Union employees of the coal and steel industry in West Virginia. Most of them are Hillbillies Ridge Runners or whatever you want to call him that love guns hunting and fishing. They’re all big drinkers and bluegrass foot stopping Mad Men.

If he only stuck to his base, that would be one thing but he loves the Democrat Party more than he loves his voters. Being a Democrat is a badge of honor, and identity, his religion.

We hope Joe Manchin is history!!!

I have never ever seen a man that is closer to the Republicans on every issue but yet remains a DemonRat.

Joe Manchin needs to go to pasture and retire.

Joe Manchin will get a good retirement check.

West Virginians will get a good choice that will see how West Virginians will get off a Good Republican.

“It’s OK to have a RINO from California or New York but certainly NOT from West “by God” Virginia.

It is so sickening to see states like South Carolina, Georgia Louisiana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio, Tennessee or North Carolina sending an endless number of RINO senators.”

100% this.

But the Ronna Romneys on this site will happily jump aboard any RINO train (Justice, in this case) and declare that NO conservative is electable ANYWHERE in this country. Not even West Virginia.

As RINOs go, Justice probably wouldn’t be the worst of them in the Senate. But to assume he has a 100% chance of beating Manchin while an actual conservative (Alex Mooney) has a 0% chance is stupid.
