I am no fan of Alec Baldwin, but the man did NOT commit a crime. He had no criminal intent. And it is perfectly reasonable for an actor to assume that a prop gun does not contain bullets in it, especially when there is a professional “armorer”—who is paid to make sure that props are safe. This does not mean that Baldwin is completely blameless. His actions may have been negligent, and, if so, he will have to pay damages for wrongful death. IMHO, the criminal case can’t get past the fact that a paid professional is responsible for making sure the guns on the set are not loaded with real bullets.

A sane voice!

It’s also important to note that Baldwin was not charged because he was the one who shot her.

He was charged because he was a producer on the film and in that role failed to ensure a safe set.

The mistake the DA made was not charging the half dozen other producers for the same crime. Any first year law student could pull that case apart.

"I had no intent of driving drunk and killing someone officer, honest! I didn't even know I was drunk!"

Sorry, criminal intent doesn't matter. You kill someone, whether intentionally or not, and you're one of us "little people" out here in flyover country and you're going to jail.

But he was more than an actor in this instance and had responsibilities far above those of an actor.

Additionally, it is not necessary to have criminal intent.

Many people have ben tried and convicted of negligent or involuntary manslaughter if they acted with a disregard for human life
while engaging in wanton or reckless behavior and the act or actions caused the death of a person.

“I am no fan of Alec Baldwin, but the man did NOT commit a crime. He had no criminal intent.”

Involuntary manslaughter is a crime and does not require intent.

If you or I did the same thing, we would do time in prison.

This is a grave miscarriage of justice. Baldwin will be back yapping his trap against conservatives and gun owners immediately. Sooner or later his pride will do him in.

Have you never heard of criminally negligent homicide?
