Due to heavy losses of military equipment since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia starts to deploy WWII-era equipment; in addition, the occupiers also have a shortage of manpower.
Source: Western officials reported this on a briefing on Tuesday, 18 April, on the condition of anonymity, reports European Pravda, with a reference to CNN
According to Western officials, there was no "large uptick in increasing equipment" on the battlefield from the Russian side. "If anything, the equipment they (the Russians – ed.) are using is the older generation."
"They started with the T-80 and T-90 [tanks], went down to T-72, and indeed, we saw the first T-55s rolled out of the refurbishment to be put into battle and the same picture across artillery pieces as well," the journalist’s sources said.

Why doesn’t the West claim victory and go home? Claim, shmaim. Fourteen months of claims and $5 will get you a cup of Starbucks swill.
Not if every other tank on the battlefield out ranges them. As self-propelled artillery they are useful, but against other tanks they are just tank shaped targets.
Land armored vehicles, however sophisticated, are obsolete in the modern technological era. Even first generation and store shelve drones decimated them. The only people to profit from this useless war will be the scrap dealers and the Chinese steel factories that will use the scrap. The globalists are thoroughly enjoying this meat grinder of white Christians.
Yeah! Bring our troops home now!
What?! You say we don't even have any brigades there?
Regards,
How about the US troops who ARE indeed in country, the massive US forces we have assembled in Poland and our tens of billions in US weapons that are killing thousands of Russian boys. Is that specific enough for you? The other Western forces in these areas are not my concern, just like the Uke/Russian blood feud is not my concern. You know that George Washington fellow foresaw CFs like this.
“The Ukraine counter offensive is supposed to use mechanized units to exploit weak points and drive around static defenses.”
It’s always been the case for maneuver warfare.
But it has always required air superiority. I don’t know of a case where it has succeeded without it. Armor moving beyond ground-based air defense are just targets for tactical aircraft.
As for static defenses, that’s always been a requirement for holding ground. Ukraine is the prime modern example. They employed it brilliantly.
How’s the U.S. stockpiles looking since the Ukraine grift?
Why the Russians fight is a different topic from how they fight. Granted, the “why” is having an impact on morale but it is irrelevant to the matter of logistics.
Meanwhile, we are begging Korea to send us shells to backfill our current U.S. inventory, which has been expended in Ukraine.
Soon, the Russians will be reduced to bows-and-arrows and throwing rocks and hand-to-hand combat and swords and yelling insults at the enemy and not brushing their teeth.
Maybe , or maybe they have enough troops deployed in Ukraine to accomplish Vlads stated goals, leaving the bulk of his forces ready to defend Russia against an attack by NATO against Russia. In any case, Vlad holds ultimately all the cards…..and everyone knows this.
Russians are waiting for the “Great Million Man Counter Offensive” coming in May or June. Spearheaded by invincible super tanks, with hardened, NATO Trained, Ukrainian patriots, advancing, singing the songs of victory. Nothing can stand against them! The super F-16, can outmatch anything Ruzzia can build, will win back the air in a day. The Donbass will be liberated in a week—The Ruzzian have nothing left to throw at the Hero army of Zelenskyy. It will all be over by August!
They will give Zelenskyy a victory parade in Washington DC. Would that a great composer were around to write the Victory Concert, or a great film maker to make the epic film of this victory for freedom and democracy. Maybe Spielberg could be hired to make “The Ghost of Kiev” film?
If Russia controlled the airspace they would have won this war a year ago.
Ukraine is using a lot of anti aircraft munitions and that could be a problem if they run out.
However I see lots of reports of new Patriot systems and others being moved up to the front in preparation for the counter offensive.
Also I don’t think the use of the old tanks is a plus it’s the result of the newer tanks being lost at a high rate.
I have a friend who’s retired military who believes the new Ukrainian armored forces will be enough to start to push the Russians back.
However this being a war I wasn’t totally convinced.
There are signs of Ukraine wearing out and there are signs of Russia wearing out let’s see what happens with this offensive whether it fizzles or makes big gains.
As for the static defense I guess the question is whether you can get through it and around it sufficiently to outflank it.
Over 60,000 produced, but how many are serviceable? How many were even inherited by Russia from the Soviet Union? I’ve seen estimates of what Russia has from 3,000 to 10,000.

You mean the few dozen technicians who are there solely to ensure that the weapons we have loaned to the Ukrainians are properly deployed? Give me a break!
[...] the massive US forces we have assembled in Poland [...]
Poland is a Member State of NATO, in case you haven't noticed, and we are obliged by treaty to assist them, if attacked (just as they would be obliged to assist us). And why would you object to their being there? The Russians just invaded their neighboring country; of course we are going to fortify our position there! Sheesh!
[...] and our tens of billions in US weapons that are killing thousands of Russian boys invaders.
There, fixed it for yuh!
Is that specific enough for you?
Thanks for being more specific: Makes shooting down your specious arguments all the easier.
The other Western forces in these areas are not my concern, just like the Uke/Russian blood feud is not my concern.
You're the type who, back during the days of the Berlin Blockade, would have been whimpering about our having to withdraw from Germany and abandon Western Europe to the "tender mercies" of the Soviets.
You know that George Washington fellow foresaw CFs like this.
George Washington did not foresee that the U.S. would one day be a world-spanning colossus, a hyperpower able to project power all over the globe. What use is our military strength to us if our enemies know that they can strike at our allies with impunity? "A ship is safest when in harbor - but that isn't what a ship is built for."
