It’s just proof that it’s politics and not core foundational beliefs. I’ll give you 6 weeks to kill your baby. If it is an issue about life that seems quite unacceptable (but that’s not what it’s about). Imagine giving someone a 6 week window to rape your wife free of consequences.

“That would’ve cost cost hundreds of thousands or even millions of lives, while waiting.”

No. When a society gives its unction to a behavior, it becomes more prevalent.

It will increse the number of early abortions, not decrease the number of abortions.

Are you going to argue that the number of early abortions will decrease?

I think it was a good move.
A ‘letting the camel’s nose under the tent’ in reverse.

Recall when abortion was first instituted, first three months,.
Over a few years that expanded over and over until what we have now.
Any restrictions are better than none.
Expand on it.
Abortion was the # 1 issue in 2022 and it reversed a sure Repub winning season. I’ll bet it will be again in 2024.

It’s just proof that it’s politics and not core foundational beliefs.

Of course it’s politics. That’s what elected politicians do, draft and sign laws. Politics is the art of the possible.

Should DeSantis not have signed it? You would’ve criticized him for that as well.

You OnlyTrumpers are so dishonest. None of DeSantis’ conservative achievements are good enough for you, even though they’re far more conservative than anything Trump would’ve done.

And I’m sure Trump will be on Truth Social here shortly, blasting DeSantis for signing this legislation. Because that’s what he does.

If the GOP nominee for President supports a six week window for state abortions, we will lose in 2024.

That includes Trump.

I do not recall that Trump supported a six week state window in 2016 or 2020.

In fact, I do not recall that Trump promised to only nominate federal judges who believed Roe v. Wade should be over turned.

Please correct me if I am mistaken.

No...a little more nuanced. I don’t know what this law says, I’m just pointing out how weird it is to say life begins at conception and then say you have 6 weeks to snatch that life consequence free. As far as the politics, he’s obviously trying to put himself to the right of Trump so he has a chance in the primary. I doubt the country is where this bill is. If there are really no exceptions then I’m not there. The life of the mother should ALWAYS be an exception (you can define what that means). If you have to choose one life over the other it’s a tough choice but it IS a choice you should have. There is no need to deny that the baby is a life and a human being but...so is the mother. Whose life continues is absolutely up to the family. Imagine your wife was going to die to have the baby and there was nothing you could do to help. Nope, I’m not on-board. I consider my position a 100% pro life position. To pretend their I’d no nuance to this is silly.

Dobbs energized Gen-Z and single women, numerically tens of millions of voters who are now almost solidly Democrat. Not only did they discover that voting is really easy, but that they enjoyed doing it!

And turned them into even more rabid Trump haters, if that was possible.

In 2016 the position was probably, states issue. The goalposts has moved to national ban.

what’s the point of winning election if you are going to backdown?

We should push for nationwide ban - starting with blue states.

1. This will backfire on R’s. Many will lose their seats, based on this. Banning abortion after 6 weeks means that, by the time many women find out they’re pregnant, it will be too late. R’s have no idea of the backlash coming.

2. And very soon, there will be a major petition drive to change our constitution to make abortion legal. And it will quickly garner enough signatures to make the next ballot. This will drive dems to vote in huge numbers the next election.

Mark my words.

Flame away.

Just in case you forgot why Trump had to choose Pence it’s the same bunch trying to push him to hold as a position a national ban on abortion as his top policy position in 2024. This is a war, you have to fight wisely to achieve your goals. Fighting this on a state level is much more likely to have a positive outcome.
