The Biden administration is looking at expanding how it monitors social media sites and chatrooms after U.S. intelligence agencies failed to spot classified Pentagon documents circulating online for weeks, according to a senior administration official and a congressional official briefed on the matter.
The possible change in the intelligence-gathering process is just one potential shift as officials scramble to determine not only how the documents leaked but also how to prevent another damaging incident.
President Joe Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin were briefed about the disclosure last week, administration officials say, but the secret documents appeared online in early March on the Discord social media app, according to Bellingcat, the open-source investigative group. Some documents may have appeared as early as January, the group said.
The president and other officials were dismayed when they learned the documents had been online for at least a month.
“Nobody is happy about this,” said the senior administration official.
The administration is now looking at expanding the universe of online sites that intelligence agencies and law enforcement authorities track, the official said.

I thought they couldn’t do this inside the US?
Anyone have any doubts that they have monitored for many years? They will just up the key word triggers for human review. Maybe they can utilize bidens 85,000 new irs wienies for the job.
Monitoring chat rooms is locking the barn door after the horse is out. Monitoring what people are doing on classified networks is what is required—and which the US military has long refused to do.
The Feds can’t keep their docs in their pants so naturally they need to do more spying on ordinary citizens.
Yeah, it was far too obvious it was a false flag operation...
“they need access control for sensitive documents. Assuming the 21 year old had access to them, the question is, Why? How was he able to bring them home, or worse, upload them from a government computer? How widely disseminated are classified docs anyway?”
Here is a perspective that answers all that. It was a preplanned operation and the Kid is going to get paid very well for playing along. The kid is a planted “asset”.
Anyone else notice that the “Classified info” was actually no big deal? In fact the info it’s self may have been false deceptive information. But because it was “leaked” we are supposed to believe it without question.
It was meant to be leaked...
What Intelligence agencies, the balloon watching squad, the Fed. Bureau of Criminality, the Central Incompetence Agency, the Dept. Of Injustice, the 51 Intelligence idiots who signed the false Trump and Russian Collusion Letter/Steele Dossier is Real and Biden Hunter is just an honest business man who likes Chinese and Ukrainian food kinda guy?
Need I go on???
“Ah jeez, now you’ve gone a done it. Prepare to face your flaming.”
It was leaked on purpose so that we would support sending them more money. It was coincidently timed just right...
Our “intelligence” community is stupid. As Bill Binney pointed out, if you collect everything, you are watching nothing.
This is a small scale example of them missing 9/11 in all of the clutter because they have an insane need to grab everything.
They needed justification for MORE surveillance!!!
You’re right. Why do they have so much information available to such low level people. What happened to the need to know
Tucker Carlson had a great take on this today...
Well, that explains it:
And why it was likely a False Flag operation from the start as I assumed.
They are already using it to expand monitoring us peasants without even bothering to try to pass SB 686 (Satan’s Bill 666).
Of course administrative procedures need to be looked at.
A larger problem that is pervasive in the intel community is nepotism and connections.
Who you know matters as much as any background vetting. How do you vet an 18 year old that has so little life experience to judge?
You don’t, vetting largely relies on those connections you have with others already cleared.
In Texeira’s case, his stepfather is Master Sergeant Thomas P. Dufault. He retired from the same 102nd Intelligence Wing after 34 years in 2019, the same year Texeira joined.
Being a “legacy”, Texeira would have had instant trust and easy access to all the intel he wanted.
But, how did he manage to get hard copies of all that intel off the base to his home, where he photographed the pages of intel? Hard copies are each index numbered and he had to then get them back on base before they were noticed missing.
Great, more warrantless wiretapping.
Here we go - they are promoting the “restrict act”
Ah, of course... Patriot Act v7
May be they should stop investigating J6 and stop harassing Trump. They would have more time doing the job they were supposed to,do.
yep
the usual key words
right wingers bad
more monitoring coming right up
