Trump seeks to delay E. Jean Carroll civil rape trial in NYC

Former President Donald Trump is seeking to delay his upcoming civil trial on allegations that he raped writer E. Jean Carroll in the 1990s — arguing for a “cooling off” period after his indictment on criminal charges late last month.

Trump attorney Joe Tacopina requested the month-long delay in a letter Tuesday to Judge Lewis Kaplan, who will oversee the trial in Manhattan federal court.

The trial is scheduled to begin on April 25.

“Holding the trial of this case a mere three weeks after these historic events will guarantee that many, if not most, prospective jurors will have the criminal allegations top of mind when judging President Trump’s defense against Ms. Carroll’s allegations,” Tacopina wrote.

“President Trump can only receive a fair trial in a calmer media environment than the one created by the New York County district attorney,” he added.

Trump was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury in March on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to hush-money payments ahead of the 2016 election and pleaded not guilty at an April 4 arraignment in Manhattan criminal court.

In response to the request, Carroll’s lawyer urged Kaplan not to grant the delay, arguing the claims were meritless and will provide Trump more opportunity to avoid the Manhattan federal trial.

*** As a result, each passing week will offer Trump yet another straw to grasp at in his campaign to avoid standing trial for sexually assaulting Carroll,” she added.

In her suit, Carroll claims Trump raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the 1990s and then made defamatory statements that attacked her for making the allegation.

Kaplan has yet to rule on the request by Trump.

Justice delayed is justice denied.

I don’t think that Judge Kaplan will delay this defamation case stemming from statements made in 2019. There is also a second defamation case involving Carroll which, to the best of my recollection, was not consolidated with this one. In addition, Trump is facing potential litigation in Georgia and with the Attorney General in New York.

Death by a thousand cuts. Cumulatively, the voters may tire of this and either move on to support a less controversial candidate or, in the alternative, reinvigorate them to support Trump and his battles against “the man.”

No, the vast majority see this for what it is... baseless harassment of a political figure. If it was someone else it might fly, but not with President Trump.

Everyone knows that this is a politically motivated circus, including and especially the leftist ringmasters. They only believe their motivations are valid because they are “saving democracy” or some such stupid excuse.

This case was a copycat of the Kavanaugh "rape" accusations by Christine Blasey Ford.

It was left-wing overreach intended to catch a wave of faux public outrage against Republicans and President Trump.

This case appears to be as fake as Ford's claims were, and were a product of the time.

Question; why would a billionaire need to rape for sex when they can buy just about any sex partner they desire?

Justice delayed is justice denied.

Exactly, Trump would have more credibility on these matters to demand immediate court, as early as tomorrow to address these matters. Yes, I know many think it is better to drag these into the campaign next year but that is distructive and may lead to a Democrat winning. Consider that core Democrat and Republican voters will vote for their respective nominee. Independents and unsures are that fuzzy group that will deside the election. They may not be inclined to vote for a candidate, even if persecution, that is facing charges swirling around porn stars and adultry.

This woman is the one, who was on Anderson Cooper’s show, and started talking about rape fantasies.

Anderson quickly cut to a commercial break when she started talking about rape fantasies.

This woman has zero credibility to any dispassionate observer. Of course, to those who hate Trump and want to bring him down, this woman is a useful idiot.

I think we all know, that a man such as Trump, would NOT have committed this crime.

Famous billionaires are known for raping butt ugly women in the dressing room of expensive NYC clotihng stores in the middle of the afternoon. This story was only slightly more believable than the tale of entrepenurial gang rapist high schooler Brett Kavanaugh and his love train parties that nobody can remember.

Yep, whatever happened to Christine Ford? Apparently has not become an activist as a result of her 15 minutes of fame. But she has a house with two front doors, because she was so traumatized by the alleged events with Kavanaugh.

And she is just hideous - I can’t see any man being able to sustain an erection when they see her face.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/linkedin-founder-is-secretly-funding-e-jean-carrolls-lawsuit-against-trump

“Reid Hoffman, the billionaire behind LinkedIn who's now a megadonor to Democrats, has been quietly bankrolling E. Jean Carroll's rape case against former President Donald Trump, according to court records filed Thursday.

The surprising last-minute disclosures came out in contentious correspondence between lawyers for the aggrieved journalist and the pissed off former president, who are battling over whether to delay the trial scheduled to start in two weeks.

While it's unclear if that payment arrangement has any material impact on the case itself, the fact that it remained secret until now will surely support Trump's unrelenting, conspiratorial complaints that ultra rich liberals have been pulling the strings on the efforts to take him down.

Hoffman is a Silicon Valley entrepreneur who founded the professional social network LinkedIn. In recent years, Vox also identified him as a major Democratic donor who has made it his mission to loosen Trump's control over the Republican Party. According to Insider, Hoffman's distaste for Trump's authoritarian and anti-democratic tendencies has even strained his personal relationship with another Silicon Valley staple, Peter Thiel, who has conversely fashioned himself as a bankroller of right-wing causes.”

“move on to support a less controversial candidate”

Sure, kid. Liberals will attack anyone who is the front runner. They are using lawfare to interfere with elections. This only stops when they liberals suffer severe consequences for filing these lawfare suits.

I don’t think that is a coincidence. These 2 women that the media has been pushing (Stormy and Caroll) are relatively speaking, HIDEOUS. The Media haven’t been pushing the many other models, beauty queens, etc that Trump has been rumoured to have had relations with because the others (i.e. Karen McDougal, that black playboy bunny in the 80s, etc) because they are attractive.

It’s almost as if the media is goading Trump into saying that Stormy and Caroll are too hideously cheap and ugly for him. Then, the media can say “see, not only is he a rapist, but he is a superficial male chauvanist pig, blah, blah, blah.”

Quite frankly, Stormy lools like the typical offerings from a crummy Iowa/Nebraska/Kansas dive bar. Caroll looks like a shop cart pushing bag lady.

And she is just hideous

Having defended numerous rape cases early in my career, I can say without equivocation that rape has nothing to do with aesthetics.

Rape is about violence, power, and control.

Whatever rape is “about” is only important in the case of a rape. I know very little about rape because I haven’t been involved in one and so I don’t claim to know what it is or is not “about”.
