KY has a law that the Governor must pick from three names submitted by the party of the dead/retiring Senator.
But I’m sure it’s unconstitutional, since the Constitution says vacancies shall be filled by the executive authority of a State.
Uh, no. State legislatures determine how senators are replaced. Governors have Constitutional authority only until legislatures meet. Most hand it to the governor, but many legislatures restrict the choices in various ways.
