Put everything behind lock & key for *all* customers. Eliminate self-checkout. Most people are oblivious to the theft losses at the retail level.

Perfectly reasonable to keep the store open.
And then have Shop on line only, with a pick up counter.
But I wonder how much of the store theft is done by Wlamart employees.
“”Eliminate self-checkout.””
After we all remained at home for a while I visited a nearby Walmart. It is a very large store, with everything from grocery, food, to an auto repair and tire shop. It used to have 25-30 check out stands with cashiers. It now has 2-3 human cashiers, and everything else is self checkout. There are many staff ‘monitoring’ the self checkout.
Won't stop it. We were at the local Wally World a couple years ago when an obvious shoplifter was caught trying to sneak stuff through the self checkout. One of the managers that caught her told us that much of the big dollar item theft is by employees - catching shoplifters wasn't the top bar on the Pareto chart.
