My good friend Gigi, a black woman, is terrified of driving thru small towns. She insists that “driving while black” at or below the posted speed limit thru any semi rural town will invariably result in the “Emmett Till treatment.”
Therefore, she reasons, it is best policy to stomp the accelerator in order to get the hell out of “whiteville” as fast as possible, and back to the big city where she feels safer.
I’ve tried to explain that the speed gradually decreases at approach to ANY populated area and the schools (which are invariably on the main drag/highway) then increases again when you get back on the open highway, so obeying the speed signs isnt hard at all. But she’s having none of it.
She insists “racism” is the only reason she is invariably pulled over and ticketed for speeding thru small towns.
