I’m of the opinion, as put forth by others, that we should place homeless people on juries. They’ve got nothing else to do. They could use the stipend, enjoy the free meals, and the verdicts they render are unlikely to be any worse.
I dodged all but two “jury” duties. To some people, being chosen to be on a jury is like the mother of all selfies. Look at me! Look at me! In the state I was living in at the time, they chose jurors from their voter rolls. It was weird how many toddlers were chosen for duty. Their parents would always end up on the news with some dumbass reporter nervously laughing about it. They all said they wanted their child to grow up “but not this fast.” They never addressed the selection process.
Another reason to use homeless people is because they don’t have an agenda and probably couldn’t care less about which side wins the case. I think we would see a lot more honest verdicts.
