Montreal Canadiens forward Denis Gurianov will not partake in warmups for Pride Night after choosing not to wear a themed jersey, the team announced on Thursday.
The decision is related to family reasons, per Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis. The Canadiens will be wearing a Pride-themed warmup jersey.
“I haven’t walked a day in (Gurianov’s) shoes,” St. Louis said when asked if he was disappointed that the Canadiens didn’t have full participation from the entire room. “I know one thing…you should always try to protect your family. So I have a tough time judging that.”

I saw him play on numerous occasions for the Texas Stars (AHL). I thought he was headed for the greatest hockey league in the world. He’s also an intelligent fellow as evidenced by this decision.
All of these professional sports have gone down my memory hole. They don’t exist for me any more.

I must have been told a lie. To my knowledge, professional sports is about entertainment of the sport (and making money) and not making a statement about a topic concerning recreational sex. I played hockey in college and I wasn’t aware there was a chapter in the NCAA or NHL rule or case book concerning the proper presentation or accomplishment of any type of sex in either rule book involving the sport. Maybe they should go to South American and play the gay cabelleros. It might make scoring far more important.

Good for him. As he is the fourth or fifth player to do so, you would think the NHL top brass would begin taking notice and realize that indeed, professional hockey has nothing to do with gay or LGBTQ pride.
Marty Walsh, who worked for Biden and was the Mayor of Boston, has been appointed the recent head of the NHLPA. My interpretation of what he stated in the past few days was that he thoroughly supports the gay community but also feels a player should be allowed to not to wear a jersey.
