I still do not understand why this is a crime.
It’s not unless he used campaign funds. The FEC and DOJ already cleared him of it because there was no case.
To further illustrate how irregular this is - the Manhattan DA is trying to use a federal crime (declined by the feds) to charge a state crime despite the fact that the statute of limitations has expired and the feds (and his predecessor) all declined to move forward with it.
That is my understanding.

I’m convinced this is just the first charge. There will be others, none serious, all ultimately futile, but all distracting and potentially damaging.
We’re in Twilight Zone territory. I don’t think America has ever been in such perilous conditions before.
