Would he appoint Matt Bevin, his previous challenger in 2019? That was a close race, as I recall.
Highly unlikely although Matt would be a real fighter.
Irony would be if the committee recommended Matt Bevin and then two of Gov. Beshear’s reddest gadgfly’s in the KY legislature.
I really don’t know who in KY would be both reliably electable and reliably conservative. Bevin made some considerable enemies during his stint as Governor. After that you have Atty. Gen. Daniel Cameron, who is both highly controversial and running for Governor, and then (also running for guv, way back) ex-Ambassador Kelly Craft, who (Craft) was instrumental in persuading then candidate Donald Trump to agree to not to work against McConnell & Paul Ryan.
As a political strategy, I’d expect Beshear to appoint the least electable Republican possible.
