Members of the Arizona House of Representatives on both sides of the political aisle came together to pass a bill aimed at protecting the ability of Arizonans to use cash for retail transactions.
HB 2555 passed with wide bipartisan support, on a 52-8 vote.
The bill requires retail businesses to be willing to accept cash as a form of payment for goods and services with a total value of up to $100.
HB 2555 now moves to the Senate for consideration.
“People rely on using cash for transactions,” said the bill’s sponsor Representative Chaplik. “As of 2021, FDIC data estimates indicate that nearly 5.9 million U.S. households do not have a bank account. This bill is especially helpful to individuals who may be unbanked, live paycheck to paycheck, or are otherwise disenfranchised because they’re unable to make digital payments.
“Cash also acts as a roadblock to those who would have an all-digital currency economy, and that’s a good thing,” added Chaplik. “The fact is that cash is still king, and it’s going to remain that way for a very long time. Arizona will not be going cashless.”
I believe (and I will be corrected if I am wrong), that cash can be used to settle a legal debt created by a transaction. BUT, I think that a business is able to refuse to do the transaction if a given form of money is not to his liking.
Sounds right. But not taking cash...is kind of lame. Un-dudely.

Ah, but there no longer are any “free” people in America except the so-called elected officials and their toadies. So in other words, if you’re not one of the accepted members of what is known as the Deep State, what you believe to be your freedoms may be exercised ONLY with the permission of those who are. In earlier times that was called servitude or bondage!
Every state should require that all retail establishments & every public & private transaction can be done in cash.
The elimination of cash is a primary desire of those who want to dominate the people. A digital currency is a dictators dream come true.
No it is not. They have allowed companies to go digital only in payment including many public venues like theme parks & concert/sporting venues.
A law should be passed that any venue, retailer or citizen who denies payment in cash forfeits payment for the good or service. The debt is paid & the cash is kept by the person attempting to pay in cash.
As it should be. I believe in progress in terms of new products, technology and improved health care but I don’t believe the government should be in charge of any of it. They don’t have a right to pick winners and losers and should never be allowed to dictate how we spend our money. We are living in a digital world but not everyone is able to afford or want to be a part of everything digital. There are more and more people cutting the cords and cables because of the woke theology happening in our world.
Just part of doing business in the public sphere. The use of cash for transactions should be expected.
The real problem is the ability of the government to shut down transactions in a digital economy.
Decide to say something about Joe Biden on this forum & find out you no longer have the ability to purchase goods or services online because of your wrong think.

Here in northern Virginia, illegals only take cash, but many businesses, particularly upscale ones, don’t use cash because they are worried about being robbed. I tried to buy a couple of beers at a new brew pub in town, and the guy said he could take cash, but not make change because they didn’t keep any cash there.
All-digital currency economy is the central committee dream come true not only to track your purchases but stop you from buying banned items like guns and ammo and other non- committee approved items.

I lived in McLean for 36 years until 2015. I guess things have changed. At the grocery store the illegals always used cash unless they had a food stamp card garnered thru an anchor baby.
