If the EPA is fine with burning 3 rail cars worth of vinyl chloride in an open burn pit

,, pretty sure they will be fine with it.

(unless a citizen is burning them )

I’m in that industry. It is a problem. No one wants the batteries. Yards have also had ones that were damaged months earlier combust in the yard. One yard owner joked “I hope the whole pile bursts in to flames. Then I won’t have to pay 4 dollars a pound to get rid of them”

I thought Tesla had their own recycling program but at this point we do not accept anything with a lithium ion or nickel metal hydrate battery at our yard.
