A grand jury proceeding is ex parte, there is no cross examination, no discovery. The prosecution more or less gets to chose what and whom it presents. That they need a "rebuttal" witness seems to me - and I am no lawyer - to indicate an exceptionally week case.

By the way, Bragg's predecessor had hired two very partisan high priced white shoe lawyers to investigate Trump, though I forget what for. One of Bragg's first acts as DA was to fire them. He seems to be using the B- and C-team public servants to pursue liberals white whale.
