Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida has sharply broken with Republicans who are determined to defend Ukraine against Russia’s invasion, saying in a statement made public on Monday night that protecting the European nation’s borders is not a vital U.S. interest and that policymakers should instead focus attention at home.
###
“While the U.S. has many vital national interests — securing our borders, addressing the crisis of readiness with our military, achieving energy security and independence, and checking the economic, cultural and military power of the Chinese Communist Party — becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them,” Mr. DeSantis said in a statement that Mr. Carlson read aloud on his show.
###
“F-16s and long-range missiles should therefore be off the table,” he added. “These moves would risk explicitly drawing the United States into the conflict and drawing us closer to a hot war between the world’s two largest nuclear powers. That risk is unacceptable.”
“A policy of ‘regime change’ in Russia (no doubt popular among the D.C. foreign policy interventionists) ,” Mr. DeSantis said, “would greatly increase the stakes of the conflict, making the use of nuclear weapons more likely.
Mr. DeSantis added, “We cannot prioritize intervention in an escalating foreign war over the defense of our own homeland, especially as tens of thousands of Americans are dying every year from narcotics smuggled across our open border and our weapons arsenals critical for our own security are rapidly being depleted.”

Democrats have become the party of war - a complete polar reversal over one of their bedrock positions 50 years ago. It will be endless fun toying with boomer hippies over this.
armistice
plebiscites
(Trump is objectively weaker than DeSantis in a national general election in 2024.)
How so?
Can’t quantify it but would suggest that Biden won in 2020 only because of anti-Trump sentiment that still exists if not increased.
If that’s the case it’s because all the guns are currently turned on Trump....I wonder why THAT is
The reason Biden won was he was installed through massive fraud.
How can you say there was anti-Trump sentiment when he was having the largest campaign rallies ever seen compared to Biden’s basement campaign.
Huzzah!!
For the Trump supporters saying they’d rather have Newsome than DeSantis, in their mind it’s either Trump, or burn the whole country down in spite.
**************
Gavin Newsome won’t be running until 2028.
If he challenges Biden in the Democrat Primary, like Kennedy did to Carter in 1980, he’ll destroy his national political career for the future.(Little democrats aren’t into “traitor crap” like the Republicans)
As far as your Trump supporters are going to burn up the country narrative.
What was your opinion of the 43rd President, Jeb Bush, John McCain, John Kasich, Mitt Romney, etc & their ‘Republican Unity’ in 2016?
Let me guess: “It’s time to let bygones be bygones.”
I would rather a Democrat that is honest about who they are than a Repuke. There are maybe 3 or 4 Republicans that I’d prefer. Desanctimonius is not among them. Turning on Trump for Paul Ryan is not a quality I can accept.
There is absolutely no reason why Trump couldn't win a fair election. He's essentially done it TWICE. But, to the extent voter fraud would prevent him from winning, it would also prevent DeSantis from winning if he's serious about making real change and bucking the establishment on illegal immigration and neocon foreign policy.
DeSantis, however, has no chance against Trump in the primaries. So, even if your points were right, they are irrelevant. Trump will be the nominee.
1. Donald Trump negates what's probably Joe Biden's biggest weakness in 2024 (his age), by being only about 3.5 years younger than him. Hell, Trump will be older on Election Day 2024 (78) than Biden was on Election Day 2020 (77).
2. Donald Trump already lost to Joe Biden once.
3. Ron DeSantis is a popular 40-something governor of the biggest purple state in the nation, who turned Miami-Dade County red.
4. Whether you like it or not, all the investigations and potential indictments coming Trump's way aren't going to play well in a national general election.
Need I go on?
Not without MAGA voters.
RINOS, Never Trumpers and the Deep State are lining up behind DeSantis.
Not a winning strategy to win over MAGA voters.
.
FOX and the Republican Party is running Michael Steele all over again in Tim Scott.
They already started the Obama / Messiah coverage.
We'll see then, won't we? Trump's constant flailing about DeSantis on social media and again at his rally today don't exactly exude confidence and security.
Unlike Trump, I'm not afraid of a competitive primary.
.
The Republicans that say Ukraine is so important- also say Social Security Benefits have to be Cut here in River city.
The same ones touting us paying Pensions in Ukraine - say we can’t pay our retirees that have paid in.
Go down the line, you’ll find it’s the case.
Start with Pence and Graham.
Fully agree with Desantis. For us, Ukraine is a war looking for a vital national security interest. The fact that Biden is the only one to find this mythical vital national security tells me a lot.
This policy by DeSantis places him firmly as Public Enemy #1 to the media and most lawmakers, who are largely on board with the globalist goal to save Ukraine at all costs, even nuclear war if necessary.
I’m sorry, but our country is coming apart and a terrible recession might be soon here, but we are printing and sending endless amounts of money and arms to Ukraine with limited results, and there is a real danger now of escalation. This, while China is waiting to move on Taiwan, North Korea is launching ballistic missiles, hundreds of thousands of undocumented invaders are pouring across our borders, violent crime is rampant in our cities, and banks are once again teetering on the brink of collapse.
DeSantis seems more interested in saving our nation, and that works for me.
I think you are correct.
The Donbas and Crimea won't go back under Ukraine.
The best the rump state can do is negotiate a peace deal and retain future chances to get coal and other materials from the lost territories via trade.
Can’t quantify it but would suggest that Biden won in 2020 only because of anti-Trump sentiment that still exists if not increased.

It won’t stay that way for long.
Once economic pain starts hitting home, people will start placing blame on the current administration.(It’s early yet in the economic pain department)
Also, the only thing terrible about the Trump Presidency was the media coverage of the Trump Presidency.
“It was dishonest & disgusting.”
