Horror fiction fans are used to being disgusted, but the hate-filled words of one of the genre’s leading writers have left many feeling truly sickened this week.
The Horror Writers Association (HWA) announced it had decided to expel Thomas F. Monteleone, 76, who has written dozens of novels and edited the popular Borderlands horror anthology series since the 1980s.
[M]uch of the outrage began when Monteleone posted on Facebook why he believed author Stuart David Schiff deserved his own Lifetime Achievement Award, writing: “Despite the last few LAA years looking very much like a very obvious DEI project, I am compelled to nominate a smart, old white guy: Stu Schiff…”
On a YouTube livestream titled Facebook has AIDS, Monteleone said he would not apologize and intended to attend HWA’s upcoming StokerCon. He went on to bemoan the “odd posturing” he’d seen at previous iterations of the event, where one award was given to “a fat Black chick,” calling his words an “honest, reportorial description… This is who she is.”
The person described by Monteleone identifies as non-binary and does not have she/her pronouns.
“Diversity is great as long as it’s not diversity of opinion,” Monteleone continued. “I’m not allowed to believe the last three years of these awards have been severely skewed towards people that have been in the past called quote ‘marginalized,’ ...‘Oh wow, you’ve been writing while Indian? We’re going to give you an award. You’ve been writing while Black? You get an award, no problem. You’re a female and you’re not a white male? You get one!’”
He went on to brag that he won’t call “anybody that’s a single entity ‘they,’ ... Whoever came up with this nonsense needs to be taken out into the back and beaten with a rubber hose because it’s bullshit.”

HWA seems to be very big on diversity. They even fund a Horror Diversity Grant.
What was said is only “racist” to the woke rascist turds.
Same with SFWA and RWA, science fiction and romance.

I’ll laugh if this happens to Stephen King based on some of the raciss worded stuff in his earlier works...
If something has to be subsidized, it’s not something the marketplace wants*. So, it doesn’t matter if it’s subsidized, it will not sell. At least not to the marketplace. A woke producer might by the product, but the result is any movie or TV show based on a subsidized but unwanted product will fail.
* Notice how the sale of electric cars plummeted after the subsidy was dropped. Sure, people still buy them, but the stats show its largely to people who have a second gas car. So, why did they buy an electric car? Probably as a social statement.
If everyone just spoke their minds and accepted the consequences like Scott Adams did, these woke outfits would collapse because there would be nothing left.

When I was young until I used to enjoy the horror genre. Way back when I bought a horror anthology for the bedside table. I used this and detective fiction to get to sleep. The two genres are very much alike and entertain without taxing the brain. I switched to somewhat weightier somewhere along the line but came across the 30 something edition of that original anthology. I smiled and picked up a copy. Never finished it. Turns out all the “horror” turns on woke points. Ghosts of slaves , ghosts of wife and children beaters. I glanced ahead, every single story. Tossed it.
Not seeing any racism there. They’re just unhappy that he’s speaking truth to power.

Or if you are 76 years old. At that point, if you haven’t “made it” you probably don’t care anymore.
