The aircraft they are sending are the MIG-31 and Su-25 aircraft. The MIG-31 is an upgraded MIG-25 being used in a couple of dozen countries and is comparable to our F16’s/F18’s. They are basically an air to air fighter aircraft with mach 2.5 plus. The Su-25 is a subsonic support aircraft like our A-10’s.

What gives the US superiority is that Russian aircraft are totally controlled by ground leadership and radar. Our pilots are more independent and have the ability to make decisions as needed without direction.

The Mig-31 is more analogous to the F-14. It's a fast heavy interceptor with a high maximum ceiling, a good dopler look down/shoot down radar, and the capability to launch serious missiles including:
6x Vympel R-37/AA-13 hypersonic air-to-air missiles with a range of at least 150 km.
4x R-33/ AA-9 Amos.
6x R-77 / AA-12 Adder with a range over 80km.

Russia has been using it to great effect in Ukraine to shoot down Ukrainian fighters and attack aircraft, which are hugging the terrain.
