Climate change is raising flight turbulence risks. Here’s what to know.

Research has made it clear: Earth’s warming, the result of the burning of fossil fuels, is increasing the risks of bumpy flights.

Here is what to know about the science behind turbulence and the ways climate change is influencing air travel:

Is global warming causing more turbulence?

Yes, according to Paul Williams, a professor of atmospheric science at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom.

A property known as wind shear, the degree to which wind speeds vary at different altitudes, has increased by 15 percent since 1979, the research concluded.

Is turbulence affecting flights more often?

That is harder to determine from available data.

The Federal Aviation Administration tracks numbers of serious injuries from flight turbulence, defining them as any injury requiring a hospital stay of at least 48 hours. There is no clear trend in its data.

Why are flights encountering turbulence unexpectedly?

The atmospheric dynamics linked to turbulence, and that climate change is making more common, mean that airplanes don’t need to be flying through a cloud or near a storm to experience bumpy air.

How dangerous is turbulence?

Depending on the severity of turbulence, injuries can be significant — but they are underreported.

Paul Williams should be ashamed of himself. A complete sellout to the global warming hoax.

We are in need of mass hangings more than ever before in our history.

Science has taught us that the sun heats the earths crust causing turbulence.

“Here’s what to know.”

...I know one thing. DO NOT trust, read or even glance at the Washington Post. It’ll lower your IQ and pollute your brain.

There is no clear trend in its data.

But there is clearly an increased risk? OK? I swear we are devolving into the semiliterate gas lit zombies

Most in-flight turbulence is caused by unruly passengers.

Turbulence IS increasing, raising flight turbulence risks due to GlowBull warming, but the mechanism is not as stated.

The actual reason, due to the CHATTER of glowbull warmists, is the increased HOT air from ground level rises and causes that havoc to air traffic.

“Climate change is raising flight turbulence risks. Here’s what to know.”

The only ‘turbulence’ due to ‘Climate Change’ is in the price of the tickets, as they phase-in the carbon taxes.

Isn't Global Warming® supposed to warm nights and the polar regions most? That way seem to imply less temperature variance between night and day and between regions, thus less turbulence and fewer storms.

Data analyzing. One must look at other factors before assigning cause.

A property known as wind shear, the degree to which wind speeds vary at different altitudes, has increased by 15 percent since 1979, the research concluded.

Which presupposes that the level of detection and scope of data remained constant, rather than increased detection = increased wind shear count. More police checking = more citations. Yet the data seems to come from numbers of serious injuries from flight turbulence:

The Federal Aviation Administration tracks numbers of serious injuries from flight turbulence, defining them as any injury requiring a hospital stay of at least 48 hours. There is no clear trend in its data — annual figures have fluctuated from as many as 18 in 2011 to as few as five in 2013 and 2020.

The factor to be considered here is that Americans may have become more likely to report injuries and seek compensation since 1979.

“Depending on the severity of turbulence, injuries can be significant — but they are underreported.”
If they are underreported, how do we know they are under reporter? simply make up some facts when you don’t have them.
I guess we need more trial lawyers to sue airlines for imaginary injuries.
Annual deaths from turbulence 0.0000000

“Climate change” is only change for the sake of change per se. Gotta change the world somehow, right? So why not start there?
