What is going on at Sen. John Fetterman’s (D-PA) office? I ask because the senator, who hospitalized and under medical observation, is apparently joining legislative efforts and co-signing legislation. Someone the people of Pennsylvania didn’t elect is acting in Fetterman’s capacity. It’s not shocking that Democrats are pushing a new framework to enhance train safety after the horrific derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, which could devolve into an environmental fiasco. What is eyebrow-raising is Fetterman saying he’s joined this effort while being sidelined for possibly a month due to clinical depression. And if you ask his staff on Twitter about it, they reportedly block you.

"Fetterman is isolated in a mental institution right now. He didn’t join a bipartisan group of anything. So the question is which staffer has appointed himself senator in Fetterman’s office?"

Correct. This is hardly unprecedented. Check out how Strom Thurmond's final years in the Senate transpired.
Doesn't make it right, but, hey, if that's what the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania voted for, who's to tell them they're wrong?
I would hope that not even a power of attorney would legally qualify someone to sign the presidents name. Or any public official for that matter. Not for government matters anyways.
Most congress critters have proxies vote for them, write and read the legislation, etc
I also hope. But don’t know.
Right now, in a mental health wing of a hospital, John Fetterman is probably not trusted with his own shoelaces, and he sure wouldn’t be allowed to sign legal documents, How would it be even somewhat probable for him to participate in crafting legislation?
Fetterman makes the perfect DemonRAT. Totally braindead so the voters love him.
Yes, depressed folks may be competent to decide things. BUT I don’t believe US Senate allows remote voting. Unlike his election campaign votes can’t be just mailed in. So whatever he does outside of Senate chambers or committee room shouldn’t count towards passage of legislation. If any legislation is claimed to have passed via with his ‘vote’ and with no spare votes while he was physically absent it should be straightforward to overturn it in court.

That’s a far more intelligent reply to my comment than most others.
and the bills he sponsored???
Fake senators fake signing fake passed fake legislation
We are truly faked
Are there Senate rules on this sort of thing? As I understand it, the House has proxies but the Senate does not.
I took “cosign” above to mean “co-sponsor.” That might be allowed; I’m not sure.
As I recall, Austin Murphy (D-PA) was censured back in the 1990’s for having someone else vote for him (on the floor I think not committee)
“Where the hell is Mitch McConnell? Or any other GOP Senator??!”
On the gravy train.
