Showdown before the raid: FBI agents and prosecutors argued over Trump
MSN Washington Post ^ | 1 March 2023 | Carol D. Leonnig, Devlin Barrett, Perry Stein

Months of disputes between Justice Department prosecutors and FBI agents over how best to try to recover classified documents from Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club and residence led to a tense showdown near the end of July last year, according to four people familiar with the discussions.

Prosecutors argued that new evidence suggested Trump was knowingly concealing secret documents at his Palm Beach, Fla., home and urged the FBI to conduct a surprise raid at the property. But two senior FBI officials who would be in charge of leading the search resisted the plan as too combative and proposed instead to seek Trump’s permission to search his property, according to the four people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe a sensitive investigation.

Prosecutors ultimately prevailed in that dispute, one of several previously unreported clashes in a tense tug of war between two arms of the Justice Department over how aggressively to pursue a criminal investigation of a former president.

So, with Wray on an attempted reputation-rebuilding tour before the hearings, the finger pointing back and forth begins.

Meanwhile, the corruption rolls on...

Hmmm, there must be a grand jury somewhere looking at this and they’re trying to “prime the pump”. All the jurors will somehow see this in their inboxes.

The fbi wrote the article. Complete fiction. Disinformation from the agency that invented disinformation/conspiracy theories. Well, actually that started in the Garden.

FBI: “We were just following orders.”

That excuse played real well in Nuremburg for the Nazis.

This is all horse shit,Hillary had all kinds of secret documents, remember Craig living stone getting all the FBI background checks on public servants?
Of course all her emails,no reasonable prosecutor would prosecute that!
But a former President who can declassify anything he wants! That’s a massive scandal, bullcrap!
Where the hell are the freaking republicans who are going to get to the bottom of theses scandals?

Even if he did run the FBI, the FBI is still just a subordinate of the DOJ.

Exactly.

The whole point of the raid was to create a spectacle and publicly smear President Trump - not to recover classified documents. So it is ludicrous to suggest they ever considered a quiet friendly approach.

Maybe that’s why they had to fly a team in from D.C. to conduct the raid instead of using the local Miami FBI office.

Won't happen no matter how much they censor dissent. Catholics, conservatives, anarchists, BLM et al no longer trust nor respect the FBI. That's like 80% of the population in this country. The remaining 20% are part of the problem, clueless or don't care.

Restructure the FBI with the only function under the "FBI" being the lab. Get rid of the Directors position and 50% of the upper management. Reduce the number of agents roll the remainder directly under the DHS. DHS would have its uniformed Force Protective Services and a new plainclothes Force Investigative Services. Stick with investigating and get rid of their snipers and tactical units. Let the States have those functions and provide support when needed. Define their mission to include what they do now, except when they liaise with State/County/Local police, the State/County/Local police have preeminence.

Also, for oversight so they are not allowed to commit murder anymore the Capitol Police should be placed under the DHS uniformed Force Protective Services with the unformed Capitol Police Deputy Chief answerable to Director of DHS and the Speaker of the House. But the Capitol Police will now fall under the scrutiny of DHS Internal Affairs. The Speaker cannot run cover for them.

We could do the same to the DEA and ATF. Cut them by 50% Roll them into one agency the BDAT&F. In fact dump the ATF entirely and return their functions to the States. The "A" & "T" part are about taxing bootleg products and tax avoidance and the "F" should be enforced at the State level as most States have their own laws now anyway. Then move the remaining DEA directly under Customs and Borders. The DEA becomes just another department under Border and Customs vice its own agency. They need to stop the flow of drugs into the country and let States deal with drug enforcement within their borders.

Some may say none of this is doable, but the truth is it is all doable. The swamp does not want to give up its power over the people. However, if you cut their funding they would make this work to hold on to whatever power they can keep.

Smells like BS. The FBI was all in favor of falsifying FISA warrants, and spreading the Russia Collusion hoax, why wouldn’t they be in favor of staging a SWAT raid on Mar a Lago?

The majority of the republicans in congress would like nothing better than for Trump to go away: he upsets the gravy train they feed off of. Oh they walk a line in public supporting him, but behind closed doors they are with the democrats. How many of them voted down funding of the border wall, and yet they vote for sending billions to Ukraine, since there is no real accounting of all the billions going to Ukraine, theres probably quite a bit lining there own pockets, via family, friends or other hard to pin down connection. They can’t buy Trump off.
