I dispute the notion of the headline saying the principal was trying to unify the students. I suspect it was just the opposite.

Or to look at it from another perspective, perhaps he was trying to unify all the non-whites against the whites.

By othering white people, the hope is to tribalize them because a 60% unified population can have anything it wants.

Knowing government bureaucracies, I guess that the principal was rising to the challenge of pushing critical race theory, knowing that his documenting having pursued it would get him
a great performance review from his higher level administrative supervisors, perhaps also the School Board, and an excellent chance of a financial bonus “for a job well done” in implementing their mandate.

I suppose you could call brainwashing "unifying". Mao "unified" China with the cultural revolution.
