David Boliek, chairman of the Board of Trustees at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill discusses the school’s recent decision to form a school of civic life and leadership.
The University of North Carolina (UNC) moved against encroaching woke culture and voted to ban diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) statements and politically preferential hiring.
UNC voted to ban DEI statements and compelled speech from admission, hiring, promotion and tenure at its Board of Governors meeting Thursday.
The board stated the university "shall neither solicit nor require an employee or applicant for academic admission or employment to affirmatively ascribe to or opine about beliefs, affiliations, ideals, or principles regarding matters of contemporary political debate or social action as a condition to admission, employment, or professional advancement," according to the resolution. An employee or applicant also can't "be solicited or required to describe his or her actions in support of, or in opposition to, such beliefs, affiliations, ideals, or principles."
"Practices prohibited here include but are not limited to solicitations or requirements for statements of commitment to particular views on matters of contemporary political debate or social action contained on applications or qualifications for admission or employment included as criteria for analysis of an employee's career progression."

Money may very well be at the heart of this decision.
So how long before the DoJ files the lawsuit against them threatening to takeaway all federal funding?
The ultra liberal, apologist UNC School of Law will chime in and challenge soon enough. Remember, John Edwards is a product of UNC Law School.
*Good move, Carolina*
No no no. They’re copying Florida(DeSantis). It takes a leader not a village.
DEI is also flat-out Marxism.
Praise God!
I’ll bet this is going to be headline news in 3…2…1…
Legislatures need to start defunding universities that don’t educate. Perhaps someone in the North Carolina legislature threatened to do so? It is worse than a waste of money as the stated reason we fund such institutions to have a well educated populace and workforce. Most such institutions not only fail to do this, they do just the opposite - churning out people more stupid than if they had never attended a day of school in their lives.
Proof is in the pudding though.
I question if they're really removing these or are they under another name.
Right - could be moving money to a “foundation” under a different name but with the same agenda.
This has been perking at UNC for several months now. The faculty are upset with the Board of Trustees for wanting “unwoke” instruction at the university. The Trustees are even working on a new university that teaches a true classical liberal education without the new-age instruction. The faculty are ticked off that they will have no input as to the curriculum. It’s a power struggle between the faculty and the Board.
It will be interesting to see how this ends.
The University of Florida (a top five public uni) has already done this and moves are underway at Virginia as well as other top tier public institutions.
The fancy privates (especially the Ivies and their ilk) are almost all so far down the road to perdition as to be beyond redemption.
But these first counter-moves are like buds in the spring …
Perhaps it is time for the trustees to hire new faculty and make sure requirements and policies are in place for actual faculty who want to educate rather than indoctrinate students to avoid having this situation occur again.
Sounds like whoever is in charge of appointing Trustees has actually been doing a good job in recent years of getting people on their who actually care about education.
Backers are pissed they are projected out of the dance, right now.
Thank goodness. My oldest was just accepted there.
The faculty and board have little power. This is a struggle between the North Carolina legislature who represent the people and the liberal governor who is supported by the university thugs and the liberal gang.
“Yep. Their geography majors in particular are renowned for making a mint.”
LOL. good one.
Diversity,,,, INequity,,,, and EXclusion,,,, simple wording change is needed!
Companies that hire based on sexual kink, pigmentation or ‘who your granddaddy’ was will lose to companies that hire ‘the best and brightest’...
Same with colleges.
Once the damn breaks it’ll be over in a flash and lots of idiot HR Karens will be out of work.
this will last as long as the spot light is on them after that they go right back to doing what they have been told and what they believe
