Individuals who were previously infected with COVID-19 are at least as well-protected against severe disease in the long run and may even have better protection, according to a recent study published in The Lancet.
The study reviewed 65 different findings on natural immunity, with the results suggesting that natural immunity is at least 88% effective against hospitalization and death from all COVID-19 variants, for around 10 months after infection.
However, the study did not account for the XBB.1.5 subvariant, also known as Omicron. Natural immunity provided less protection against the BA.1 subvariant of Omicron, which recorded a 36% efficacy against symptomatic infection after 10 months.
Despite the significant findings, the research team continued to encourage the use of COVID vaccinations as a method of acquiring immunity against COVID-19, despite widespread concern about potential side effects.
“Vaccination is the safest way to acquire immunity, whereas acquiring natural immunity must be weighed against the risks of severe illness and death associated with the initial infection," said lead author Stephen Lim, from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington’s School of Medicine.

I think you misunderstood my post. When I used the acronym 'FR' I meant "fatality rate" not Free Republic.
In any case, I'm sorry for your losses. Apparently you experienced a lot because "worked in an industry greatly effected by people getting infected with COVID and having very serious illnesses." That would certainly increase your anecdotal contact.
I don't know anyone who got covid much less anyone who died of it. I know of one person, my best friend, who died because his doctors would not see him in person for over a year. His wife tried repeatedly to get him an appt. but all they would accede to were "phone appointments."
Apparently chronic pneumonia is hard to diagnose on the phone. He died two months after they finally saw him in person, misdiagnosed his pneumonia as emphysema and COPD, and it was too late for any saving measures.
FWIW he did get the Moderna shot about two months before he died.
I forgot to mention that there is no evidence that any of the vaxxes prevent covid or lessen its severity. That Pfizer exec. cleared that up when he said that no testing for effectiveness was done.
I gave up on The Lancet...
Some use the expression "Jim Jones jab".
I agree regarding the stats. At the time, I followed them very closely.
Regarding the vax, the promotional campaigns for an unvetted drug were beyond insane. And the massive absence of discretion and submission was very disheartening.
"Why would I need a vaccine for something with a 99 percent survival rate that does not have any distinguishable features?” said Zubiate. (a registered nurse)
There is my original reason for being disinterested in being vaccinated. Unless I had reason to think I had a high risk factor for serious illness or death in connection to SARS-CoV-2 taking a vaccine for it would be an hysterical overreaction.
But since that initial decision was made the government and media have heaped on far more important questions of trust and principle. Because what I see there is deceit, bad faith and malevolence in connection to the vaccines which outweighs any personal health concerns and sets my mind in adamantine opposition to taking it.
With those two implacable reasons to refrain from vaccinating I don't need to struggle with the debates over safety issues. "Safe as spring water" would be a wholly inadequate argument to overcome my objections to taking them.
To get Natural Immunity, you first have to survive Covid with no protection.
Great points.
And add to that the condescending dismissal of cheap, OTC drugs that had the promise of fighting the China virus. And the $39k per COVID corpse the “hospitals” enjoyed.
The cult of corruption was mind-numbing — the reason why I condemn the “medical community” as self-serving cult.
My family all had COVID in 2020.
Later that year out of curiosity I asked two of my doctors if I should get the COVID vaccination. They both asked why in the world would I want to do that.
Yes, all of that too. It all stinks to high heaven.
My father practiced family medicine from ‘54 to ‘84 and he would have been appalled at how the medical community behaved. I share your opinion of them. There were exceptions but they were all too rare.
Since when did a vaccine ever confer better immunity than the actual virus?
Sheesh, they’ll push the narrative to force that vax onto every last one of us if it’s the last thing they do.
Who says the vax offers protection?
To get vaccine induced immunity, you first have to survive the vaccine.
Besides, there are other prophylactic treatments for a cold that could have saved lives. It’s not like there was NOTHING that could be done when you get Covid. There’s plenty that works if the medical community hadn’t withheld it.
And yet where was the advice for people to lose weight to increase their chances of surviving Covid?
NEVER. MENTIONED. ONCE.
Initial viral load was a huge factor in whether you had time to build up resistance before showing symptoms or your immune system was overwhelmed before you did.
And no boosters.
_______
Me too and never any adult flu shots. And I used to think Robrt Kenedy Jr was a jackass. No vaxxxx since I was 10 years old

“There are harms that are already being created,” she warned.
ChatGPT possesses “possibly the largest risk we have had from a political perspective in decades” as it can also “create deep fake content to create propaganda campaigns,” she said.
Its biases may soon find their ways into the workplace, too.
In the past, human resources utilizing similar AI to rapidly sift through resumes began to automatically disqualify female candidates for jobs, Palmer explained, adding that financial institutions have run into AI bias in regards to loan approvals as well.
Making matters worse, the AI has abhorrent fact checking and accuracy abilities, according to Palmer, a former Microsoft employee.
“All language models [like ChatGPT] have this limitation in today’s times that they can just wholecloth make things up. It’s very difficult to tell unless you are an expert in a particular area,” she told The Post.
Its something both Palmer and Hegde say Microsoft has not been open with the public about as its ChatGPT-infused Bing AI has already gone haywire with responses.
“I am concerned that the average person that is using the Bing search engine will not understand that they could be getting information that is not factual.”
Didnt they change the definition of vaccine also? Do you remember the details on that?
“To get Natural Immunity, you first have to survive Covid with no protection.”
LOL
You don’t have a functioning immune system? Any vx interacts with that system else the vx would be pointless.
All the MDs offering free early treatment, and having zero patients hospitalized or dead from cv19 (and hence those developed natural immunity) not good enough for you? The people who died of cv19 did so because they were denied treatment.
I’m not sure how a shot containing a LNP which accumulates in places like the pancreas could in any way be considered “protection”. Lol.
