Firefighters in Bowling Green, Kentucky, last week found the first baby placed into their Safe Haven Baby Box, which was just installed in December.
WBKO reported that an infant was left in the Safe Haven Baby Box at the Bowling Green Fire Department (BGFD) station on Lovers Lane.
The firefighters retrieved the child just a minute and a half after the box was used, WNKY noted.
Monika Kelsey, the founder of Safe Haven Baby Boxes, held a press conference. Addressing the parents of the baby, she thanked the parents for looking out for the best interests of their child.
Kentucky’s “Safe Infants Act allows parents to leave babies younger than 30 days old at a designated safe place. No one will call the police or ask for your name,” Kentucky’s Health and Family Services website says.

Makes you wonder how many expert border patrol officers Brandon has detailed to the WHITE House to change his diapers.
I understand the logic and the sentiment, but one would think it would still be an open missing person case until the connection was teased out and confirmed. Admittedly not what the young mother using the baby box would prefer, but how else can foul play be ruled out?
"...how can foul play be ruled out..."
Agreed! I take issue only with the subtle introduction of the slanted narrative that "couples" here are placing their newborns into the "Baby Box."
I encourage the widespread distribution of "Baby Boxes." (If I recall correctly, there are also usually policies in place to allow the mother to reclaim her child after a "cooling-off" phase.)
Regards,
She always could claim to have had an abortion.
That said, some people do manage to conceal pregnancy. Alternately, keeping a fairly low profile and then up and moving quickly after birth might be a way of putting things behind. As well, if one’s immediate family is in agreement, then it would become much easier.
Recognizing one’s own limited capacity to properly care for a baby, and seeking good care for that baby, is not abandonment. It’s an unselfish act of live.
Whether that relinquishment occurs through an adoption agency or some other means, the fact remains that whomever was responsible for that baby saw to it that it was placed in safe hands.
For all anyone knows, it may well have been the father. Mom could have died as a result of childbirth.
“You” can’t let your fantasies get in the way of a good decision.
I know one such father, whose girlfriend aborted his child without informing him. He had no idea that she had been pregnant. Had he known, he would have married her. He was, to say the least, not happy to learn that his son or daughter had been killed. At that point he could do nothing but complain to the ex-girlfriend.
Baby boxes provide what the mother wants. She remains anonymous, and her baby survives. Those who say, "She can just drop it off at a church!" choose to ignore that leaving the baby in any public place puts her at risk of identification and publicity. She does not want to be forever known as "that woman who abandoned her baby."
It’ a hell of a lot better than MURDERING THEM if your a dumb kid who just screwed for a little fun.
If every MURDERED CHILD had a chance for LIFE instead of ABORTION we might finally get back on the right track.
That SAVED CHILD could just turn out to be the next great scientist, doctor, engineer, etc.
And I am not interested in replies like “what if the kid turns out to be the next Charlie Manson”, the odds of that are a lot lower than the kid turns out to be a decent human being.
EVERY ABORTION CLINIC SHOULD BE PUT TO THE TORCH!
EVERY ABORTION DOCTOR SHOULD BE HANGED IN THE TOWN SQUARE!
Boy Howdy! I sure don’t know what I wrote in my post that spun your bearings. I thought I was pretty supportive of both the baby and mother.
““Encouraging the abandonment of babies?”
Well, it beats the Hell out of the alternative.
As I said when this was posted last week;
I pray the child lives a long & successful life and God bless the mother for not using the government approved method of terminating a pregnancy.”
