Virginia lawmakers are making their final push to build a new FBI headquarters in their state, while Maryland officials try to persuade the federal government to put it in Maryland.
The Washington Post reports that the jockeying is happening as the General Services Administration gets closer to a decision in the decade-plus-long effort.
In a letter to the GSA and FBI submitted Feb. 3, Gov. Glenn Youngkin, a Republican, and most of the Virginia congressional delegation made a detailed case in hopes of swaying the federal government to prefer a site in Springfield, Virginia, instead of locations in Landover and Greenbelt in Maryland.
Virginia lawmakers also sought to compete more aggressively with Maryland on one component that Maryland has sought to elevate: that building the FBI in their community advances racial equity. President Biden signed an executive order in 2021 that made advancing racial equity through federal agencies a priority, a move that considers the effects of federal investment in certain underserved communities.

I suspect the Springfield location is where GSA once had a warehouse. Even then much of the sight was just overgrown brush.
As well as many, many other alphabet agencies.
The former sight of the defunct Landover Mall?
Maybe they should be forced to use the actual (dead) mall as the headquarters. They can park in the weed-strewn parking lots and use various abandoned stores for their various departments.
Probably the site of the defunct Washington Redskins.
We used to go camping at Lunga reservoir on Quantico Marine Corps base.
Also took our kids fishing there at Secon Pool which was regularly stocked.
We had to go right through the FBI Academy to get there.
Why not build the new building there?
Relocate it to Anacostia. Short little move.
Yes
Nome, alaska is where they should go. A cot, a land line phone. no internet. $5 a month housing allowance.
Nome Alaska. A cot in your cube, land line phone, no internet.
The FBI headquarters should remain in DC. At least we can see it. But they’re going to move it so it will be like the CIA headquarters.
The CIA illegally meddles in domestic affairs all the time. Why shouldn’t the FBI have their own Kremlin? I wonder how many interrogation rooms they’re going to have in this new monstrous complex?
I don’t doubt that those running the FBI now would like to have their own internment facilities within the complex. An American Lubyanka. Jan 6 has made that pretty clear.
How about just do an asset sale and close it.
Not Landover, although that’s what the article says. They want it in New Carrollton because it’s kind of a transport hub, with access to Metro, Amtrak, US 50 and I-495. It’s also in the richest black-majority county in the US, and all that goes along with any black-majority area. It’s favored by politicians and upper management.
The Virginia location is favored by most of the people who work there, since it’s safer and has quicker access to Quantico. It also has better access to the airports, although I-95 is packed, and the Metro line ends there, and there’s a commuter rail station there, too. There are lots of minorities there, too, but they’re the wrong shade.
Landover it is, then. Prince George's County is where all the uprooted Washingtonians of Color moved to when the white gentrifiers moved back into NE and SE DC.
Because?
I hope every construction worker craps in the concrete, walls, hvac vents ….
What if they moved it out of the DC area. Keep a Field office in DC. But move the HQ to Denver, Cleveland, Miami ?
First rule of government spending... why have one when you can have 2 at twice the cost!
