GOP Rep Calls Mitt Romney’s Comments to George Santos on House Floor ‘the Rudest I’ve Ever Seen’

Embattled Rep. George Santos (R-NY) and Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) exchanged some harsh words prior to the State of the Union address on Tuesday.

After video captured the two Republicans briefly speaking as lawmakers entered the House floor, Romney confirmed he told the New York representative he shouldn’t be there.

“I didn’t expect that he’d be standing there trying to shake hands with every senator and the president of the United States,” Romney told reporters after the speech when asked why he went out of his way to say that to Santos.

“Given the fact that he is under ethics investigation, he should be sitting in the back row and staying quiet instead of parading in front of the president and people coming into the room,” Romney added.

The senator called Santos’ claims that he embellished parts of his resume ridiculous.

“Look, embellishing is saying you got an A when you got an A-minus. Lying is saying you graduated from a college you didn’t even attend,” Romney said. “And he shouldn’t be in Congress. And they’re going to go through the process and hopefully get him out. But he shouldn’t be there and if he had any shame at all, he wouldn’t be there.”

Mitt Romney on Santos:

Q: "You just said, ‘you don’t belong here’?"

Romney: "Yeah."

Q: "Why did you say that?"

Romney said he wasn’t sure if Santos responded to him, though video shows them clearly exchanging words.

Santos reportedly called him an "a**hole" and followed up on Twitter, reminding Romney he "will never be president."

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) said Romney's comments were “the rudest I’ve ever seen a human being be to another human being," according to The New York Times

Other Republicans also criticized Romney for his remarks.

I’m betting Santos did not destroy a single life by taking over a company, dismantling it, selling portions and ejecting longtime employees. Romney destroyed thousands of lives to build his wealth.

Mitt Romney is an empty suit.

He acts as though Santos is criminal, but that China Joe is not.

This is good for Santos. Not having Romney as a friend means you won't have to keep pulling the knives out of your back.

Quite frankly, this IMHO, is a classic example of the pot calling the kettle black.

Has mittens ever said that to little dick (stolen valor) blumenthal? Or Brandon for that mater?

Go away mittens, you suck even worse.

...get used to it. Liberals, and Mitt is a liberal, get ruder than that. Much.

I doubt their "process" to get him out is constitutional.

Santos stays until at least his next primary.

On the issues, there is no bigger liar than Mitt. Santos has yet to show that he lied on the issues.

RE: Santos has yet to show that he lied on the issues.

I actually ( regretably ) voted for Santos last November.

I would have left the box blank had I known what I now know today. And two years from now, I WON’T vote for him in the primaries.

Having said that, I have to say that THUS FAR, he has been voting the right way.... He’s the lesser of the two evils compared to his Democrat opponent.

Santos will probably get religion and mend his ways. Or at least try. Will Mitt SanctaRomneyous ever do that? Seems doubtful.

Why? Were they both not legally elected?

And I would even say the same about Omar and AOC, yes, they are embarrasments, but they were elected, just the same.

Romney is a big fan of escalation in the Ukraine war but when it came time for his service, he had six deferments associated with being a missionary in France and his subsequent marriage. His father, George Romney, was a liberal Republican who was leading the race for the 1968 R nomination until he claimed he had been “brainwashed” on Vietnam. Sen. Eugene McCarthy responded, “Romney - Brainwash? A little light rinse would do the job”.

Who belongs in an institution representing the people less, the man who lied about his biography to get there or the man who lied about his intentions once there?
