If a bunch of “Ultra Patriots” staged a coup and replaced Putin, it would likely be a situation as bad as Putin is, his replacement would significantly worse.

I don’t believe any of the propaganda coming out of either side in this war, anything is possible and a coup to get rid of Putin would be a major deal.

I have been warning the Putin-haters over the past year to be careful what they wish for—the bench will make him look like a calm moderate by comparison.

I do not think this is the “ good news” the Russophobes are trying to spin out of this guy’s remarks.

I do not think the term “ultra patriot’ means what they think it means.

Looked this guy up on wiki…bit of a nutter.
We should hope Putin is never violently replaced by an “ ultra patriot”
……Because they think he is too moderate and want the gloves to come off in ending this war

The world now depends on the patience of Vladimir Putin and his strategy of managed escalation vs “ shock and awe” bravado

Alaska Comments
During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Matveychev made a series of demands directed towards the United States and NATO.[11] He proposed a list of various demands for once the invasion succeeded, including that the US immediately end all sanctions against Russia and in order to aid their economic recovery, return the State of Alaska, and Fort Ross, California, both of which were historically Russian territories voluntarily given up during the 19th century. He also demanded that the continent of Antarctica be recognized as Russian territory, citing that it was discovered by Russian explorers. His proposition was widely mocked and condemned on social media, notably by Mike Dunleavy, the Governor of Alaska, who stated, “Good luck with that! Not if we have something to say about it.”[12]

If a bunch of “Ultra Patriots” staged a coup and failed to replace Putin, there would be fewer of the dangerous Ultra Patriots alive in Russia at the end. That would be viewed as a desirable outcome by many, at least compared to the status quo.
