THE CORRECT RESPONSE IS FOR bidet TO SEND A FOUR STAR GENERAL TO MEET WITH PRESIDENT XI.

Another CCP virus delivery system? Maybe that is why Joe let it float across the United States before dealing with it.

Breaking: Suspected Chinese spy balloon shot down!
To: no-to-illegals
You can still learn a lot about them. On the other hand, they probably weren't all damaged and the fall into the water wasn't as bad as onto land. I presume you know how to take them intact?
My thoughts would be to bust the balloon and then catch it with one of those "sky hook" things they used to catch film canisters that were ejected from satellites. They don't have those anymore. Junked 'em.

Is it possible our people jammed transmission back to China?
Or did they allow transmission because they are compromised?
If the thing was transmitting directionally and up to Chinese satellites overhead to get its data out (which it almost certainly was), then a jamming effort would have required probably dozens of flights by electronic warfare aircraft to maintain continuous jamming coverage. Those flights would've been noticed on open-source flight data tools, and don't appear to have happened (nevermind radio astronomists probably would've noticed such jamming as well). Additionally, given that satellite jamming is considered an act of war by most countries and China hasn't made a peep about it, I'm going to go with No, we didn't bother jamming the thing.
As to why we didn't bother shooting the thing down or otherwise interfering with it until after it had left US airspace and completed its mission, I'll leave it to you to decide whether it was compromise of our 'leadership,' incompetence, or some blend of both.
As for myself, I don't much care about the why- I'd be pretty disgusted either way.

Thanks very much for your reply.
I’ll go with you: it’s damned disgusting and we can safely bet on what did/didn’t happened.
I think they’re planning on EMPs. They don’t want to contaminate farm land.
I hate to be that cynical but that’s what it’s come to.

But 47 feet at six miles? I could buy 500 feet, but that seems unrealistically shallow.

From the tip of Bald Head Island to the Frying Pan Shoals is 7 miles. Lots of 40' to 80' water in that area up to 10 miles offshore.

Those flights would've been noticed on open-source flight data tools... ADS-B Exchange and others of its ilk only know of aircraft (and balloons for that matter) that squawk or transmit ADS-B signals. The military can make aircraft stealthy to these apps.
For example, globe.adsbexchange.com depicts air refuelers apparently very reliably. Sometimes 40-80 of them are up at once. But, as to what they are refueling... fighters... we rarely see them. From ADS-B POV, the refueler goes up, goes in circles by itself, and then lands.

How did we know it was Chinese prior to China admitting it and claiming it was a civilian weather balloon? It seems someone must have been watching it longer than that to have known its origins.
Amazing how the air currents of a lost “weather balloon” were able to just happen to travel in directions taking it over major military bases, power plants, etc.
To: C210N
What ever the reasons this event took place, it was undeniably a test of military response to a threat in its actions. The resulting inaction of Canada and the United States speaks volumes about the people currently in charge in both countries.
It is time for our military to step in and remove the people plotting the demise of this country and hold new elections.
