Valley fever and histoplasmosis are not common, but not rare, fungal lung infections. Most people have minor symptoms and cure themselves. Histoplasmosis used to be a marker for AIDS infections back in the day.

I assume there will be a story about climate change and histoplasmosis infection in the near future.

Without fungi we wouldn’t have ethyl alcohol (that’s the drinking kind), sourdough bread or Gorgonzola cheese.
