Whoopi doesn't 'get it'. We're NOT all the same in our relationship with the police.
Not even close.
Whoopi should look at any medium to large city police deployment maps. Ninety percent of police are assign to 'the black community' because that's where the crime and violence is.
It's insan
e to pretend otherwise. And these officers who murdered an innocent young man? They don't see themselves as killers because their typical role in the black community is a combination of 'father' to a fatherless culture, husband to abandoned baby mamas and protector .of the elderly. Way too much control - and it's NOT the job. These men see themselves as keeping the black community from exploding into violence.
It's not the same in white world. In our communities cops give speeding tickets - and not that often... they arrest people but don't feel the need to 'punish' them. The emotional connection doesn't exist. In our communities they don't do as much 'good' and they don't do this irrational stuff either.
How to solve the problem of out of control cops? Restrict their jobs to 'the letter of the law'. If an action meets the criteria for arrest, they take the citizen in to the next level of the justice system - the jail and court level. Period. If not, they let the citizen go. Under no circumstances should cops comfort a mother who's son was shot, or negotiate a fight between relatives, or search for someone's lost dog. They are NOT 'role models, fathers to fatherless boys, or protectors of women and the elderly. Their job is to determine is there probable cause a law has been broken and arrest the citizen or not. It's NEVER to punish the person. It's NEVER to 'teach a lesson'. That's the court's and jury's job.
In white world cops act like cops. No one knows their names, no one thinks of them as friends or role models. They do a job and we respect that. Pretending the black community is like the white community or Hispanic community or Asian community is nuts. Want to solve these problems? Stop pretending. The systemic underlying problem in the black community is complex - but a large part of it is a lack of homes headed by fathers and a lack of natural rules fathers who love their children - put down.
Very thoughtful analysis. The only thing I can add is that Whoopi isn’t worthy of thoughtful analysis. She’s dumber than a box of rocks, along with her sidekick, Joyless Behar.
