This completely mis-states the reason or reasons for the impending collapse of our hospital care system.

The number of people who do nothing of value for patients has exploded. Each and every one spends their entire work effort figuring out how to wet their beaks in the ocean of employer-and government provided cash which is intended (or maybe not) for patient care.

If you actually WORK during the day (doctors and nurses), it is impossible to keep up with these people. A good friend once said to me “the one thing any bureaucrat ever sees is the need for another bureaucrat”.

The “medical bill problem” is a big one, all right, but the system would carry on if every bill due more that 30 days was written off. A cynical way to look at it is that the purpose of employer-paid “insurance”, Medicare, and Medicaid is to create a (very) large pool of money which must be consumed by the end of the fiscal year, and thus the need to expand the pool of useless eaters to suck up all that money.

It was a war and we got beat.

The battles were and are irrelevant.

If a large pool of money is created to be tapped by clever financial manipulators, however created, whether by Republicans or Democrats or both, you will have this problem.

It’s another manifestation of democracy + weak government.

The end, mercifully, is near and the rebuilding can begin.

I've seen & heard that claim, especially from Habersham and other anti- Diem writers, but think it's more propaganda than fact. According to Mark Moyar most Vietnamese practiced a form of ancestor worship. That actually fits better with what I saw in I Corps. But even some Buddhist sects such as the Hoa Hoa & Cao Dai were strongly opposed to the Viet Cong.

Suggest getting a copy of Phoenix And The Birds Of Prey: The CIA's Secret Campaign to Destroy the Viet Cong. “The majority of villagers actually favored the Siagon government over the Viet Cong during the latter years of the war.”
It wasn't “hearts and minds” it was 22 Divisions of NVA.

I think Moyer’s Triump Forsaken: The Vietnam War 1954-1965 makes an even stronger case that most of the conventional analysis has been very wrong.

Socialists and communists endlessly debate what is real socialism and communism, but the one trait all these big government solutions have in common: top down market control instead of a free running bottom up market. In theory, top down control should work. In practice, it never does. Excluding corruption, the number one cause of failure is that centralized data collection is always gamed.

Leftists know top down control always fails, but they just can't give it up. Leftists are mentally ill losers. Unfortunately, they have engineered themselves into the majority, and they are incapable of stopping. Even a super-majority isn't enough. Because leftists have run out of native born losers, they have opened the flood gates on billions of third world losers.

That was going to be my reply. Then there is the Cuban Missile Crisis to boot.
