How far does USA have to push until Russia goes nuclear?

We're getting close. I wish a reporter would ask Biden what our response would be when Russia uses some sort of nuclear weapon in Ukraine.

Why care? Even though it is unlikely. If Russia is going to use a nuke it will be on the US.

I am confused.

I thought that the Russians were winning. I thought there is going to be half a million screaming Russians pouring into Eastern Ukraine in weeks. I thought the Russians were going to roll right up to the river and end this thing.

Why then, are the Russians worried about a couple of tanks—to the point where they would use nukes?
