No Tanks? Zelensky Uses Davos Pulpit to Scold Western Allies for Lack of Heavy Battlefield Weaponry
Breitbart ^ | 01-19-2023 | Simon Kent

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky used the pulpit provided by the World Economic Forum (WEF) gathering in Davos on Thursday to complain about not obtaining enough main battle tanks from some Western countries to help turn back Russian forces.

Speaking by video link at a breakfast with U.S. Sen. Chris Coons, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, AP reports Zelensky offered a very public rebuke of countries like Germany, Poland and the U.S. that had not been quick enough to respond to his call for heavy battle tanks.

Zelensky bemoaned a broader “lack of specific weaponry” and said “motivation and morale” is not enough to defeat Vladimir Putin’s imperialist ambitions, even as the Russian leader has mocked Western tanks as nothing but battlefield fodder for his forces.

How do you know they have no crew training, or the rest of that? Many thousands of Ukrainians have trained in Poland, which has a considerable number of Leopard IIs. And in the UK, which has Challenger IIs.

I suspect theres a good reason these two types are being offered.

Ukrainians may have been training on F-16s in the US already.

With today’s far less expensive anti-tank weapons why would they prefer tanks over them?

I see the value in trying to re-take land, since Russia doesn’t seem to have anti-tank weaponry as effective as that of Ukraine. But still, if they’re begging for arms tanks seem like a big ask for not much benefit.

Considering the people who’ve already got Leopard IIs, there’s not much the Chinese need to learn about them. Indonesia, Qatar, Turkey, etc.

Money was set aside in July, and you think they’re trained?

Its much better to have tanks than not to have them. The modern battlefield is more dangerous for tanks these days than at some other points in the past, but there is still no substitute for them if one has to engage in mobile warfare. And other battlefields at other times have also been extremely dangerous for tanks.

Consider - The first true test of the tank used in decisive numbers was at Cambrai, 1917, where they managed to achieve a relatively low-cost breakthrough, by WWI standards, against extremely well prepared defenses. However, the tanks suffered @50% casualties, 180 destroyed or lost (manly due to heavy artillery fire) out of 376 engaged, and nearly all the rest had gotten bogged or otherwise broken down by the end of the battle. The battle proved indecisive for other reasons, notably that the British had not gathered sufficient reserves with which to defend their gains.

Zelensky will go into ‘Actors Mode’ for whatever occasion he's begging for money etc. for. But he's also finding out real fast now that what he wants isn't going to always happen the way he wants....or even if at all.

He was in Davos ‘to sign’ with Broadrock or what ever that group is to get money for rebuilding Ukraine....there will be a whole slew of International and national companies standing in line to rake in money off Ukraines rebuilding ahead. The revenue will flow big and large into that toilet where contractors will take their cut as will Ukraines Oligarchs and Zelensky’s stooges.

Yes it is without question and people are getting pretty fed up with it. ...not that that will make any difference to world leaders....they simply stay their course.

Nobody is saying anything, but I suspect that some are in training by now. I doubt they are going to show up tomorrow but I wouldnt be surprised if they do show up sometime this year.

I'm not a believer in grand master plans, especially when it comes to people like Putin, but just imagine if this invasion were part of a larger plan for the European nations to weaken their defense capabilities by sending a lot of weaponry to Ukraine-then Russia moves into Europe.

Of course, the US would probably never run out of firepower, and we would defend Europe at all costs. But still, it's interesting to see how the European nations are responding to desperate calls for more and more military equipment.

If he somehow wins the battle, will he pay back all he has borrowed and give credit for the win to all those who supplied him? Because without help, the war likely would have been over by now. He demands money, but will he pay it back?

Does the Abrams get miles to a gallon or use gallons per mile of fuel?

Just try to imagine all the petroleum products being consumed by western powers in the defense of whatever is it we are defending.

And at the same time Biden is hell bent on not allowing Americans to drive petroleum powered vehicles here in the USA.

So much for oil destroying the planet. The American public must love being owned.

since Russia doesn’t seem to have anti-tank weaponry as effective as that of Ukraine

Russian Kornet missiles have been amazingly effective during this war. In fact, there are no more tanks to shoot at. Ukraine had over 2,000 main battle tanks when the war started. Most of them are in the tank graveyard now.

It seems obvious that he wants our tanks in order to deprive us of their defensive capabilities by blowing them up on Ukraine’s battlefield.
