What should you wear to work if you’re nonbinary?
It may not be the most pressing question that gender-nonconforming people face on the job, but with approximately 1.2 million LGBTQ+ Americans identifying as nonbinary, employers and employees alike are exploring what professional attire can look like.
“I think people treat me with more dignity when I dress more masculinely, but people are way nicer to me when I dress more femininely,” said El Layla Johnson, 33, a former restaurant server who is now a therapist.
For Johnson, getting dressed for work has been a struggle since adolescence.
“I just feel like there’s a manual or rule book that people receive and that my copy got lost in the mail,” Johnson said.
Johnson recalled regularly crying while getting dressed for work at an upscale restaurant in Seattle. It wasn’t just that they found the restaurant’s dress code to be ugly. Johnson had a hard time finding clothes that fit at all.

Wow! Thank you for the update! I always thought that it was sweet that Frank was “clingy”. Do I recall correctly that he was enormous? Is he still? What a deal! Yay for the Chicklets!
In other news, FS got home about 30 minutes ago! YAY!
I probably won’t hear from him until Saturday.
Still, it’s a relief.
And now, I’m not feeling all that great for some reason so I’ll go see what I can do to change that. Like get my cute little self ready for bed.
See ya tomorrow!
Worst possible name for a ranch?
Russell’s Cattle!
Glad he made it, and I hope you have a good night!
Talk about camouflage! Where’s da kitteh?
Good morning. I hope you had a good night, with or without cats!
Speaking of cats, where does Shannon sleep? I don’t know that you’ve ever said, except that they have had spats outside your bedroom door.
It’s 29° out and we’ll reach a toasty 35Fs today! Break out the sun tan oil!
The mail has been coming very early these days so I’ll have to get my letter out to Charlie asap. I’ll get it started in a few so that by the time I’ve had my shower, I can finish it up and run it out to the mail box.
Happy Friday, Wordlers!
I hope the start of your weekend is pleasant, in spite of the weather. Or because of it!
Here’s today’s try:

I think he just went for the easiest answer - she wasn’t careful during the merge. It may also be a man thing. But as I look at the damage to her car and the description she gave, there’s no way he was already in the lane when she started the merge.
I’ll see if she wants to try to appeal.
If more money were involved I’d hire one of those law firms that advertises auto accident law on TV.
Good morning, all. Happy Friday!
We made it another week. The cold cold cold temps hit today. Then we start to warm up again.
Wordle is slowly climbing back up to better scores.

Good morning. Not bad. I think Jake came by, and DP was dreaming about Tom.
Shannon sleeps in different places: sometimes on the sofa, sometimes on the short-person chairs, sometimes on her sleeping bag, sometimes with Frank.
So Shannon doesn’t play favorites! Strange cat.
Ice storms have done a lot of damage... Been on backup power since Wednesday afternoon... not much free time but trying to keep up with the Wordles...

All cats are strange. Shannon has been disrupted because Tom isn’t around all day. This is good, of course.
Shannon is one of those snooty cats who believe the world owes them. Jake is like, all macho and gritty.
But they fit their roles perfectly.
I can hardly wait to get settled so I can get a cat!!
I’ll also be happy to have my doctor back! Or be back with a familiar doctor. He’s pretty cool, so I’ll stick with him.
My driver’s license expires next year, too, so that will be an event. I hope they mail it to me, since I’ll be in the same complex.
Sorry to hear about your power disruption!
It would seem you had much more to deal with than we did here, even though the town closed up shop. Literally.
We’re warming today, but the high is only scheduled for 36°, and it may be a little warmer since the sun in shining.
Good job on your Wordles!
Prayers for your power restoration.
FD sent me a text this morning, saying neither she nor her husband got paid today. They work for the same people, but he’s on nights at a remote site and she’s on days.
She just sent me a text saying everyone has walked out but her and one manager.
The story is trickling in. The owner evidently knew two days ago that he couldn’t meet payroll, but he was so busy opening up his new restaurant that he doesn’t seem to care.
She said they’ll be OK. She said Rob’t will file for SSA and work part-time and she will go back to lab work. She says it pays better and has better benefits. And here was I, gearing up for a rough row to hoe with her, giving her mortal support and all that.
She’s learned a lot since she began AA!
One nice thing about NYS DMV - they have relationships with most eye doctors. If you have had an eye exam within the previous 6 months (I think) the eye doctor can send the results in and you don’t need to go to the DMV at all.
I don’t know if you have to report every few renewals just to prove you’re really still alive and nobody stole your credentials for online renewal.
Oy. I’m glad she’s handling it well. There’s nothing like cognitive behavioral therapy, which is a lot of what they find at AA, to help you cope.
Utah does licenses by mail as a matter of course, as long as you have a doctor’s report in the last 10 years. I have. So all I would need is to change the apartment number and I’ll be good to go.
Since I’m #4 on the wait list (as of March) and my license is due to expire in ‘24, I’m good. Street address and doctor are the same.
I’m pretty proud of her for sticking with AA. My biggest fear was that she was going to relapse, but Rob’t evidently remains the #1 incentive for not. He told her she would have to get out of his life if she didn’t stay with it, simply because of HIS recovery.
So the three of them make a good team!
