What should you wear to work if you’re nonbinary?

What should you wear to work if you’re nonbinary?

It may not be the most pressing question that gender-nonconforming people face on the job, but with approximately 1.2 million LGBTQ+ Americans identifying as nonbinary, employers and employees alike are exploring what professional attire can look like.

“I think people treat me with more dignity when I dress more masculinely, but people are way nicer to me when I dress more femininely,” said El Layla Johnson, 33, a former restaurant server who is now a therapist.

For Johnson, getting dressed for work has been a struggle since adolescence.

“I just feel like there’s a manual or rule book that people receive and that my copy got lost in the mail,” Johnson said.

Johnson recalled regularly crying while getting dressed for work at an upscale restaurant in Seattle. It wasn’t just that they found the restaurant’s dress code to be ugly. Johnson had a hard time finding clothes that fit at all.

It has been quite awhile, and things may have changed, but I recall that you could always get the most $$$ for a used car/truck by selling it yourself... directly to the next owner...

Of course that entails dealing with the ‘public’ and all that goes with that...

I haven’t looked at a map, but an article that I read said that this was part of a 1,000 mile stretch of icing...

That’s correct. Since it’s not my car I’m trying to decide how much effort I want to put in for my daughter. I’m actually willing to try, but Mrs. ArGee has a say. I think she wants it over with already.

I did learn about one scam when I posted an earlier car on Craigslist. I got an email almost immediately asking if I’d sold it and how much I wanted. I replied asking them to make an offer. Then I got another email telling me if I’d give them a price, they’d have someone come out with a bank check to pick up the car.

So I did a quick search. The bank check would include some cash to pay the delivery person for picking up the car. I would be asked to go to the bank, deposit the check, get the cash, and pay the person. Then the check would turn out to be fake, I’d be out the cash, the car, and the bounced check fees.

At least the old rule about “if it seems too good to be true, it probably is” still works.

Yes, it’s definitely a personality type. Patrick has it, too, but with less outspoken grandiosity.

There is a lot of variety. He went to three different sites one day last week and did three different things: run seismic waves through the soil under a parking lot; watch cement being poured; wash a soil sample to determine its particulate ratio.

Much better than restaurant work, and I’m sure that they’ll pay him more once he’s been at it for a while.

Indeed it does, it is pretty much timeless...

Back when I last sold a vehicle, there weren't as many scams out there... main worry was having creepy folks coming to your property...

By the time FS gets on the road tomorrow, most of the storm will be rain, and that will lessen my worry, but not take it a away. He was in the motor pool in the army so he does know how to drive!

He’s on the road, now, so I’ll just wait for his next stop and update.

It sounds encouraging for Tom, anyway, and I wish him the best of luck.

Mona has been and gone this morning. She came over yesterday and borrowed a box of salt and promptly put it on her sidewalk. She did this late in the afternoon when the temperature was dropping so this morning, when I looked out, I saw a sheet of clear ice on the sidewalk.

I gave her a cup of coffee and listened to her rattle. I don’t know what she’s on, but she’s really hyper lately.

Three bunnehs in the yard at dusk last evening, which Tyson-who-is-not-allowed-on-the furniture utterly ignored, he had more pressing business.

7° this AM, it was a quick trip for Tyson...

Mona is on a lot of meds and some make her manic while others depress her. The meds seem to change from week to week, so I never know what to expect. All I can do is invite her in and listen.

At least she didn’t stay long this time!

The furnace repair guy is here, so we’ll see what happens.

I sent a text to the manager this morning at 0800, so this is pretty good service. But then, whichever company they use has been very good, both for the A/C and the furnace. I think the lastest was around 1600 or so. Still, not bad. And I won’t complain.
