Snip:
Remote government by Zoom might be the best way to break this monoculture. If all the official proceedings of the legislature were conducted virtually, this would keep the officials in the states that they represent. Not only would they be more aware of the situation in their home states (since theyβd no longer spend much of the year far away), they would be more accessible to their constituents. Regular physical contact with the people who elected for them would increase the accountability of officials as they serve out their terms. This would also impede the formation of close friendships with representatives from other states, and hinder coziness between our representatives and the lobbyist and consultant class that parasitizes the body politic inside the Beltway.

For anybody who thinks this, you couldn't be more wrong. Work from home would save this country if we ever implemented it against these representatives. Those legendary D.C. cocktail parties would instantly be a thing of the past - effectively abolished.
Oh, I don’t know. They’d have workshops, conferences, seminars, you name it and they’d be there (not in their home state of course).
It really doesn’t matter, the rot has set in.
They can make these meetings private. I’ve been on study classes that do that.
It is ridiculous that our federal seat of government is still located in what was the 13 colonies.
It should be located in the Midwest where travel time for Senators & House Reps would be equal.
Also, in the next big war like WW2, Washington DC will be rubble, we better get the historical relics out of there.
“Those legendary D.C. cocktail parties would instantly be a thing of the past - effectively abolished.”
Technically, yes - in reality, they’d find a way to get together regardless of where they were based.
*Also, in the next big war like WW2, Washington DC will be rubble, we better get the historical relics out of there.*
Good luck getting the real relics, biden and dem congress critters, to leave.
Term limits - anything else is band aids.
Committee meetings can’t be held remotely.
I like the theory, but don’t see it happening. But maybe move the other swamp agencies around the country. Send the FBI to Kansas. Send the NIH to Seattle. Send the FDA to Arkansas. Spread them all around. Shutter their Virginia/Maryland/DC headquarters.
We can have term limits. Just vote them out. The problem is everyone hates Congress but for some reason just love their own critter.
A few nuclear-tipped cruise missiles were (basically) two minutes away from destroying D.C. in the 1980s even - when launched at the 12-mile international line.
It’s been crazy to keep it there.
(we better get the historical relics out of there)
Are you talking about Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer? ππ€£πππ
I would propose rotating where these clowns meet. Every year or six months run them from another city so they get the full effect of their policies. Six months in El Paso. Six months in Baltimore. Six months in Wichita. Sure the logistics would be a pain but I care little for the suffering and inconvenience of our political overlords.
Just move the seat of government to Rapid City and insist all federal workers live there. That should clear out a good bit of the riff raff.
And per diem travel allowance would cover a Motel 6 room and breakfast, lunch and dinner at Dennys.
(Six months in El Paso. Six months in Baltimore. Six months in Wichita.)
So..... you’re saying they’re ... Six...Six...Six?
Sounds about right πππππ€
I think what should happen is the agencies should be located in cities logical to their function. Agriculture in Omaha, Interior in Denver, Commerce in New York, Energy in Dallas, etc. This keeps the agencies in areas with the people they are supposed to serve, and enhances the economy of each city chosen. President Trump wanted to break up Washington (which is, after all, the world's biggest monopoly) in this manner. Another reason they really hated Trump.
Agencies created in the late '60s and early '70s mainly to placate rioting hippies (EPA, HUD, etc.) are antiquated, unnecessary, and should be abolished post-haste.
Meant to ping you to #17.
Yup. The capital should rotate amongst regions and states. That lib boat anchor should be passed around to everyone treading water. If they want the higher pay and benefits federal employees should be rootless gypsies living and working out of tent cities, as well as all the private infrastructure that serves them.
Freegards
Were they gone as reported for 4 years?
