To my Republican friends: the only proposal you should be considering on Social Security & Medicare is ending mass unskilled migration in order to protect these programs for American Seniors who paid into them and depend on them. Ryanism is on the ash heap—leave it there forever.
Want to cut spending? Slash the corrupt woke bureaucracy, stop paying people not to work, punish fraud, curb military adventurism. Boost revenue? Tariff China. Reduce deficits? Halt migration & ban ALL noncitizen welfare. Improve cities? Get tough on crime. Don’t revive Ryanism.

And the push overall wages down. A bad thing.
Stephen Miller is not for open borders. Do you even know who he is?
Big old jet airliner Steve Miller?
Don’t care.
“If the GOP cuts benefits that Americas seniors paid into and depend on, the Dems will never lose another national election”
It depends on how many senior and pre-senior voters there are.
Part of the problem is that Social Security pays seniors that contributed nothing or very little to it.
“I’m pretty sure this is completely false. Social Security (FICA) taxes are supposedly paid into a trust fund, but that trust fund (remember Al Gore’s infamous “lock box” proposal from the 2000 campaign) has been raided for years to cover up deficits in other areas of the Federal government.”
Yes, but that is not direct expenditure of FICA taxes for general revenue purposes, but yes that is part of the problem, however the creation of that problem was by design - that anytime social security taxes paid exceeded the need of social security benefit payments, the “social security ‘investment’ “ would be in U.S. treasury notes - IOUs from the treasury. That is the genesis of the problem but it is no longer the case, the reverse is now upon us and FICA taxes no longer are in excess of benefits and social security must go hat in hand to the treasury and ask for cash for the IOUs the treasury gave it.
Stephen Miller is one of the good guys.
The title would indicate they care about the American Sr. Citizen......HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Lol. I bet he’d like that reference. He seems like a very focused but knows how to laugh guy. There’s a reason the left fears and hates him. Backbone.
“The essential problem is that there is no true “trust fund”, just IOUs”
Correct answer.
Here is the “trust fund”:
This is a long con—a ponzi scheme.
There are no “policy solutions” to Ponzi schemes.
Do not feed the llort!

Friend, it’s already baked in. Our debt and unfunded mandates, like Social Security and medicare simply cannot be provided to the ultimate beneficiaries in a way that meets their expectations.
It’s all going to be wiped out, its just a matter of when the profligate spending tips the scale over and the dollar collapses.
I wish it werent so, but the ledger is so far out-of-whack that there is nothing we can do to stop it, short of the politically impossible feat of shrinking government at all levels, including every benefit that any person receives from the federal government.
So tell your family that they should ALREADY be voting against Republicans AND Democrat liars who have bankrupted us.
As for Ukraine - the bribery, kick-backs, and corruption are likely to be epic, however, because of Republican and Democrat liars, nobody will be held accountable - so that is another reason why benefit expectations will not be met.
Good luck to all those that have grand expectations of receiving federal benefits. Enjoy them while you have them, but keep your friends, family happy so they will be willing to help you when it all stops.
We’re all socialists now. There is no hope of meeting the benefit expectations. It’s been politically impossible to consider it for decades, still it doesn’t change the facts that the benefits won’t be paid as expected by beneficiarees.
Lets just stop pretending anyone is fiscally conservative in any way. Yes, it would be “nice” to give everyone the comfortable retirement they thought they were “paying for”, but it’s not going to happen. Enjoy it while it lasts, but when the credit limit is exhausted, it’s over.

So many Republicans on this site and elsewhere denounce Social Security or say it has to be cut - and then complain when the Democrats tell voters that the GOP opposes Social Security and intends to cut it. That’s called cognitive dissonance
“...So many Republicans on this site and elsewhere denounce Social Security or say it has to be cut ...”
What I’ve seen and heard for decades is that annual INCREASES in Social Security and extensions of coverage to illegals, etc. should be decreased, which the left takes as “Cuts,” and that social security should be optional for YOUNGER/YOUNG workers (who would instead have their SS deductions placed into historically much-higher return PRIVATE investments), while maintaining SS coverage for those already retired or about to retire.
Gingrich’s “wither on the vine” comment was perfect in that regard—with private options, who would want to stay with poorly-performing and shrinking SS, the program would wither on the vine and die (like a tomato with a root no longer drawing moisture from the ground). https://archive.thinkprogress.org/newt-gingrichs-opponents-accused-him-of-wanting-medicare-to-wither-on-the-vine-because-that-s-what-48f80f5cbae5/
There is also cognitive dissonance when erstwhile freedom loving americans insist on socialism.
I agree. Not one effing tax payer cent should be spent on illegals.
Look, I’m as compassionate towards people who are reaching their older years as anybody could wish. Being a fledgling oldster myself, it’s a daunting prospect to be “thrown to the wolves” with no assistance as an elderly person.
I could be completely wrong, but the consequences of our financial situation are dire, and they are likely.
At a minimum you and your friends/family who expect to rely upon social security and medicare should at least consider what you might do if those (and other) programs effectively end. How will you feed yourself, how will you procure needed meds, where will you live, and what sort of life do you want versus what is realistic. You will need help, and if you don’t get it, life will be very hard.
Unfortunately, there is no simple political solution. Resolve to prioritize one expenditure over another will also not solve the problem. I agree that all unnecessary spending must cease - but to the jackals in the federal bureaucracy and congress - spending is an opportunity to skim off some for them and their kith and kin. This is the problem that is driving us over the cliff. Those that live off of government are far too often thieves. Since they are never going to be held accountable by fellow thieves in the DOJ, we are left with one option - default. And default we shall have.
Will there be anything left for you in your golden years? Nobody can say. You certainly should not have that expectation. That’s where friends, family, community come in, if you are lucky.
That’s the thing. Not everyone is going to be lucky. But sitting back and threatening to vote for one party versus the other is not going to ensure anything other than (at best) a cursory fix for an impossible problem.
The bureaucratic/WEF/elite solution is for you to die before you consume resources needed to have you live a decent, dignified life. That’s what they want - for you to die.
It’s depressing if you are unable or unwilling to do anything to live a dignified life in old age.
Vote as you wish. It will change nothing. Socialism always fails, and we are socialists now.
Ryan and Romney ran in 2012 promising to cut Social Security. They lost
Trump ran promising NOT to cut Social Security. He won.
It’s amazing how many folks on Freerepublic still think the GOP should side with Ryan and Romney. That may make “conservatives” feel virtuous, but if the GOP takes their advice, they’ll feel virtuous while living under neverending Democrat rule, because the GOP will never win the White House again
SS is my money. They will continue to pay it to me.
The end.
