I believe the DoJ waited until after the election to see which way the Red Wave went.
If Democrats had held both the House and the Senate, we would never have learned any of this.
But since Republicans won the House and got investigative and subpoena power, the DoJ gave the Biden administration two months to have their lawyers review the documents and possible destroy damaging evidence before the DoJ made the news public.
Also remember that this is the same DoJ that refused to let President Trump's lawyers into Mar-a-Lago to witness the FBI search for classified documents stored there.
