If the 8 vote “present” or are absent, then McCarthy wins the Speakership and they can say then never voted for him.

Well I agree, you are quite right there, unfortunately for America..
Even Tucker clearly doubted Gaetz on his Foxnews show (during the false Gaetz scadal).
So... here we are then. Gaetz is in vendetta mode. And the whole Republican Party is paying a high price for this McCarthy / Gaetz feud.
My dream is to have a united Republican Party, even if it’s slightly imperfect. There is no other way against the Democrat block of concrete.

What I am saying :
You can’t obstruct endlessly the most important institution of America.
In reality Americans don’t care about the Gaetz / McCarthy feud.
They only want to see the Republican congress working for America.
If this continues, Americans will be fed up with both the McCarthy and Gaetz people. That would not be good for the Republican Party as a whole.

I just read the article, its prety good.
It explains that republicans are divided on the way to go forward in this drama.
It also says that the “hold outs” are producing productive debate. It assumes that compromises are being made that way. That is good.
I think that’s good too as I have said repeatedly here on FR.
BUT! This cannot drag on for ever! It would backfire on everyone in the Republican Party.
When McCarthy is accepting most important demands from the Gaetz group, that should be seen as a positive thing and make everyone come together as a result. That’s the goal of any comromise.
However Gaetz now says he will never agree to anything, even if he gets all guarantees and written commitments you can imagine from McCarthy.
Now THAT is where I think Gaetz is irresponsible.
