Seem very unusual that most conservatives don’t want that job.
Speaks volumes about how dysfunctional our government is.

The caucus isn't going to support a junior representative with no significant leadership or influence. Those who have such qualification have thus far stuck with McCarthy. It's a thin majority, making the job of herding the caucus very difficult. When you actually get something done in the house, the Dems still control the Senate and White House. I think most potential candidates see 2024 as a disaster in the making, and they don't want to be the goat.

I see it differently.

It speaks volumes about how the United States Establishment gives every ideological faction their political heroes.
When the political hero doesn’t measure up, another champion emerges to slay the enemy, but basically the same policies are implemented regardless of political rhetoric or parties.

A good way to study United State History is to study every political campaign since George Washington.
The legislative history of the United States doesn’t lie, take a fork in the road, or a U turn.

What needs happen from the executive, legislative, and judiciary ‘just happens’ regardless of ideologues & partisanship.

“Our nation is what it is”

Didn’t McCarthy vote to impeach Trump? Why in the hell would Trump indorse this POS. He lies constantly and is looking for the position but not the job. The American people deserve better than another RINO running the House.

Very true.

Also, this ridiculous back-and-forth effort to shove McCarthy into the speakership is extremely telling and proves the existential inertia of the ‘Republican Party’.

For decades the GOP has failed to (refused to) come to terms with the gargantuan chasm between ‘Republicans’ and Conservatives in the US.

What you see now demonstrates that the GOP can no longer ‘fake it to make it’ on the national stage. For so long the GOP has been happy to assume the role of a ‘bystander’ in US politics. For so long, they have been getting by on some very puerile optics … and calling it leadership! They have been in bed with the media (and their creatures) for TOO long and now, cannot overcome their own paralysis.

Damn skippy. I maintain that the now-hushed Awan Bros scandal was a grand net cast not by a foreign power, but our own alphabet agencies intended to exert control over Congress. They did not ensnare everyone, represented at a minimum by the ‘freedom caucus’.

This battle - as we see it publicly - is evidence to that assertion, including the failed entrapment of Gaetz and his opposition to KM.

Who would WANT to run point and become a target like Trump did for 6 years & counting? Answer: Someone with bigger cajones than Trump himself. The underlying assertion is that the establishment was very successful at fracturing their opposition over the past number of years (and it speaks loudly to a vast conspiracy, not merely a political battle waged out of bedrooms & basements).

Honestly, I fear this battle was already lost - epically demonstrated by Trump’s loss in 2022 - and this is all merely theater, which is why we’re seeing a hesitancy for someone to rise to the top in a vacuum of support in opposition to the establishment.

Another ignorant FReeper wrote “our nation is what it is”; ironically - my first thought upon reading that outrageous statement - the Founders framed a response to such in the DoI...
