Unfortunately, Newt is howling for the rebels to get in line behind McCarthy.

I suppose that is meant to suggest how much he is behind POTUS Trump?

The rebels would not have McCarthy on the ropes, to do more than make promises to a party of 5 people, but to codify it with a full vote, first, by the Republican Conference... if they had caved instantly to POTUS recommendation. (Per Gateway Pundit article— that McCarthy relents.) Rumor?

Well, these votes -- in reality, these negotiations between GOP opposing factions -- are serving to expose the tenuous commitment to principle of a lot of self-described conservatives (Gingrich; Hannity; Hewitt; sadly, Levin, et al.) who, in their rush to crown McCarthy (at best, questionable as a leader), clearly fail to see the benefit -- and the correlation to the basic concepts of representative government -- of how the GOP leaders in the House will be expected, by the members of the caucus, to carry out their responsibilities as well as how they will conduct themselves.

The consistent reason they give for their rush to install McCarthy as House leader is that it's taking too much time and that it's important to "get on with the peoples' business."

Condemning these honorable members of their own party who are committed to taking a few extra days -- if not a week or more -- to clarify matters about how House business will be conducted over the next two years is not only despicable, it conflicts directly with the principles of representative government; thus, their reasoning has failed and will continue to fail to persuade.
