BREAKING: 9 House GOPers Reject McCarthy Deal
twitter ^ | Jan 1 | Chad Pergram

@ChadPergram

A) 9 GOP Hse mbrs or mbrs-elect sign a letter about McCarthy's offer to make concessions. "Regrettably, however, despite some progress achieved, Mr. McCarthy's statement comes almost impossibly late to address continued deficiencies ahead of the opening of the 118th Congress"

B) 9 GOPers on McCarthy: "At this stage, it cannot be a surprise that expressions of vague hopes reflected in far too many of the crucial points still under debate are insufficient."

C) 9 GOPers on McCarthy: "This is especially true with respect to Mr. McCarthy’s candidacy for speaker because the times call for radical departure from the status quo — not a continuation of past, and ongoing, Republican failures."

D) 9 GOPers on McCarthy: "For someone with a 14-year presence in senior House Republican leadership, Mr. McCarthy bears squarely the burden to correct the dysfunction he now explicitly admits across that long tenure."

E) 9 GOPers on McCarthy: "Thus far, there continue to be missing specific commitments with respect to virtually every component of our entreaties, and thus, no means to measure whether promises are kept or broken."

F) 9 GOPers on McCarthy: "Mr. McCarthy's statement also continues to propose to restrict the availability of the traditional motion to vacate the chair as a means of holding leadership accountable to its promises"

G) 9 GOPers on McCarthy: "We have from the beginning made clear that we will not accept following..Pelosi’s example by insulating leadership..We also note that the statement fails completely to address the issue of leadership working to defeat conservatives in open primaries"

H) 9 GOPers: "The progress made thus far has been helpful and should guide our thinking going forward."

I) 9 GOPers who signed the letter: Perry, Gosar, Roy, Bishop, Harris, Clyde, & Reps-elect Luna, Ogles & Crane.

Then if it’s THAT important, McCarthy simply needs to agree to their demands. They are NOT that onerous. Just roll back to pre Pelosi rules, no more omnibus bills, committee assignment reforms etc.

That argument is over that the democrats are so evil that we MUST support repubs that agree with them 75%.
Time for McCarthy to submit.

What is their desired end-game?

The end is convincing themselves that they're somewhat important.

They know that whoever is elected Speaker will probably be less conservative then Kevin. Just like Paul Ryan was when they forced Boehner out

They don't care. Don't look for principle or any effort to make things better for their constituents. It's all about them.

So.. are we anti-Trump now here on FreeRepublic?
Trump supports McCarthy and is asking his followers to do the same, then shouldn’t we trust Trump and support McCarthy?

What you posted is true and old news. The Republicans have been for years. And they are not about to change. A fighter emerges from the Republican ranks. The other Republicans neuter and neutralize him/her. That has been going on for years. The only thing Republicans fight are Conservatives. That will not change in the foreseeable future. Say the next 100 years. The Republicans in South Carolina will continue to reelect Lindsey Graham each time he is eligible to run for at last that long.

I’ll wager it is all performative politics. I may well be surprised but I’ll bet he winds up with the job.

Yes I agree.
Those kind of “judges” (political activists) are implying its forbidden in America to demonstrate peacefully. Jesus, whats wrong with those people!?? America is not Russia or Iran. Here we can demonstrate PEACEFULLY!

No. Give the Dems the House, give them the blame for what’s going to happen in the next two years. When we get a stronger majority, not relying on gays from NY, then we can govern again.

I’m in Pinal County and Eli is my new guy too. Better than useless O’Halloran, but he came out of nowhere so I have my doubts about him. Time will tell.

I hope McCarthy pulls it out. He’s a great fundraiser, according to Schweitzer whom I’ve always respected. But he definitely needs to be kept on a short leash and chastened or his “used car salesman” persona will take over as he tries to sell us down the river.

I thought Walt Blackman had the nomination wrapped up but Eli Crane got the Trump endorsement in July and that’s what carried him.

The House Speaker need not be a congress critter.

Newt Gingrich, Ben Carson, Pompeo would all be good choices.

“...shouldn’t we trust Trump...”

Trump has a known, long history of poor personnel choices for gov’t positions.

Who cares. Is it really going to make a difference with the ongoing Federal corruption and broken Judicial system.

Like most of us, congress critters are not single dimensional. In addition to ideology, there are a variety of views on what is pragmatic, what is doable, what builds the party or a persons political future in addition to what builds the country.

Clearly can’t play much offense until we win more in 2024.
Clearly any focus on the past is a losing strategy.
Americans want to look to the future. The reason many liked Trump, despite some stupid remarks, is that the policies Trump implemented were focused on the future and not the past.

A leader with a vision for the future is needed.
A leader who can focus on a few, clearly good, well communicated plans for the future is needed.

Parts of the past are unfortunate. Your future spouse does not want to support a person focused on the failures of your past, even when you are not responsible for those failures.
