*** so, will there be a breaking point for the american voter, or will they just continue marching into the ovens in lockstep?***
You say that as though you think our votes count.
The main thing is just say no to the brainless “You just can’t live without one” consumerism. Sure you can... Change your lifestyle to mechanical can opener instead of electric can opener mentality. Embrace analog and get some exercise for your health. Most would be surprised what they really can live without fine if they were not so lazy.
“One reason I moved here was because of the property taxes. 32 acres with a house and a new 30x60 shop building, 25 acres of woods with tens of thousands of dollars of saleable lumber, and all for less than $500 a year in taxes. A lot less.”
Sounds pretty nice! Where is “here”?
And . . . it’s on purpose.
Joe Biden will come out next month and explain to all the gifter’s that now is the time that they will be asked to pay their fair share of taxes, e.g., for all the stuff they are getting which HIS government can no longer afford;)
Cheers and applause! I am looking for such a place, as it no longer bothers me to become an Ex-Pat. Too early for SS, but I’m still looking.
I dumped TV in 1997. The after effect that I never saw coming was that it almost eliminated my consumerism. I simply was not being exposed to ads any more and I only bought things I really needed. Occasionally springing for something I saw at a store that I “wanted”
Even with the internet, I don’t even look at ads. I also did pay the $11 a month on youtube so I don’t see ads. And considering the way I use youtube, it is well worth the money. It’s the only streaming service I’ve ever paid the monthly fee for, and happily so. I also cancelled my subscription to microsoft Office 365 at the same time, so it was mostly a wash. I now use the Linux version, and it’s a LOT more reliable.
FWIW, I bought it in 2008, two weeks before the election. I saw the writing on the wall. I don’t think my friends realize the gravity I put behind the phrase, our anger should not be focused on our bad, elected leaders. It should be focused on the people that elect them. And that is a more serious and difficult to solve problem.
True for me. People ask me what I want for Christmas and I tell them, I’m trying to get rid of stuff, I don’t need more stuff.
Our family stopped exchanging gifts over a decade ago. I still buy my wife presents, but they are always a “surprise” because they are not attached to a holiday.
We do buy gifts for the grandchildren, but even they are getting old.
Yep, absolutely. Regulate the wants or needs and ditch items that are purely status symbols, that is the name of the game. Like being in business, cut all unneeded wasteful overhead. But one does not have to live extremely Amish, some common sense compromises are still fair game.
Like I hate Verizon and AT&T, but it is the only way I can get internet where I am. The other carriers here will not let me hotspot or tether as a modem. And I have absolutely no other options available. But I buy no contract $50 burn phones and can do it cheap. There is no law or even status requirement to sign an expensive contract just to have an IPhone purely as a status symbol.
It is silly, and the corporations are gleefully taking advantage of our own silliness. We are our own worst enemy when it comes to feeding the machine. We complain, yet we keep right on foolishly buying their crap. Just tell them no and live without it. It is the last trend they would ever want because then THEY will have to compromise to survive.
“Thanks to the support from GOP fellow travelers, President Joe Biden signed the act into law in August, injecting $473 billion of new spending..."
I live alone, so no family to raise, but I hate it when a politician like Biden lies about what he’s going to do. My mom used to wash my mouth out with soap when I did that. I think we need something a little stronger for Joe.
We here on Pecan Hill salute you, as we have done much the same. More adjustments may be needed in the future, however.
Yep. I’m wondering how hard it would be to hook up an automotive alternator to my exercise bike. 😁
Similar for me. However those of us on as limited fixed income are very subject to damage by wild inflation. Groceries and utilities are climbing monthly.
Most Germans had no reason to lash out at Hitler; many could remember the harsh conditions imposed by the Versailles Treaty and were OK with much of his agenda.
When people wonder why the Germans didn’t surrender sooner, I believe it was memories of Versailles that motivated them, along with the leftist violence after WWI. Hitler personally had a bizarre fear of being put on display in Moscow; that probably originated with the execution and display of Mussolini in Milan.
I pretty much agree with all of that. But it appears you are suggesting the germans, kinda like the Japanese, were in a fight to the death.
They both certainly fought as though they were in a fight to the death; in terms of the Japanese, the oil embargo was going to send them back to their pre-industrial era. Looking at Japan today, they are finished; demographically they have no future. The Germans, at the helm of the EU, have gotten what they wanted in 1940.
