Here’s a rejoinder. If a program exists and spending more on it isn’t inflationary, then how does one account for today’s social security versus the first check sent out?

Certification List for sending the first Social Security check, for check number 00-000-001, was issued to Ida May Fuller in the amount of $22.54 and dated January 31, 1940.

The government experts concluded at the start: We have no reason to believe more than a few Americans will live past the age of 65, so the system will always be well funded based on our figures.

In 2022, 21 percent of the federal budget, or $1.2 trillion, will be paid for Social Security, which will provide monthly retirement benefits averaging $1,538 to 49 million retired workers.

Old joke:
I’m not saying he’s old but his Social Security number is 12.
